United States Calf Ropers Association

The United States Calf Ropers Association was founded in 1996 by Lanham and Tracy Mangold. It is a membership association designed to give calf ropers a fair and competitive chance to compete in the sport of calf roping. The USCRA uses a number classification system to rank each tiedown and breakaway roper according to his or her ability level. By grouping ropers that have similar talents, the USCRA's calf ropings have a competitive atmosphere. Each year, the USCRA hold calf-roping events across the United States, with over 100 USCRA produced or sanctioned ropings to be held in the 2008 season. Ropers can compete at all ropings throughout the season, which runs from October through September. The climax of the year, the USCRA Finals, are held in Stephenville, Texas in September. These Finals have become the world's largest calf roping. The Finals include the Showdown Finals, the World Finals, the Semi-Finals Qualifying Roping and, for the first time this year, the Roper's Plus Finals, and they are designed to allow each roper the opportunity to be a part of this great roping. Ropers qualify for the Finals by attending one regular season roping (Semi-Finals), winning a Showdown position by placing first in the average at a regular season roping (Showdown Finals), or by qualifying through money winnings (World Finals and Roper's Plus Finals).
