Hi everyone, i just started using parelli with my horses and we all love it. i am also very luck beause a parelli trainer just moved in to a large property on our road. ive been riding up to her place almost every day to train with her and when i can't do that i just work with my hoses at home with what i already know. what are you views on Barehooves too?

you are soooo lucky! i totally wish i had a parelli instructor in my area...i've been into it for a few years now...as for shoes...i personally have never shod my current horse, many others have been though...before natural horsemanship...never really had much thought on it before but none of my farm horses in sask have ever been shod either...they get trimmed but not shod, there feet will acclimatize themselves to the territory...how do they do it in the wild?

Yeah parelli rocks. All of our horses go barefoot, but only because they can. If your horse seems to need shoes, do it. Just if my horse doesn't need them, I don't put them on. The shoes add a jaring effect on their bones and tendons. I mean could you imagine running or jumping around on concrete all day? It'd get kind of uncomfortable on your legs. Discuss it with your farrier. I'm not saying shoes are bad or anything, my qh has fronts on sometimes, because when its wet out, the hoof wall tends to crack a little bit with him.

Hi everyone! I don't use Parelli, but I do respect his work and follow others like him (Frederic Pignon, Chris Irwin, etc.). It's made all the difference with my gelding, who was well cared for physically but mentally and emotionally neglected for many years before I owned him. Natural horsemanship, flying free, is definitely the way to go!
I just started a group to celebrate the equine spectacle "Cavalia", which practises these methods of riding and training. Check it out if you're a fan or if you're interested!

A horse doesn't care how much you know until he knows how much you care.
- Pat Parelli

I spent a year "caring" for my little mare. She's 3 now. She had been basically left with her herd, and her dam to roam the prairies free for the first two years of her life. When I came along, it was a bitter cold winter and she was very happy to see me as I struggled to roll that 1200 lb round bale in to her paddock. Perhaps she was happy to see the round bale rather than me. She wasn't afraid. And as the winter rolled along, she became more and more inquisitive about just who I really was. She would nuzzle my hair and my jacket, and follow me about. I found her scratchy spot under her chin and let me brush the burs and twigs out of her crazy mane. I could see her smile and wink - literally, when I stroked her neck and told her how absolutely beautiful and adorable she was. And so our journey began with her learning how much I cared.

If your horse is recreation for you, can you be recreation for your horse?" - Pat Parelli
