Hi Lisa
I am still trying to slow that trot down on my 6 yr old mare. She trots on command, but doesn't hold the gait very long. She does in the round pen but not under saddle. Is your trot a western jog type or a bit faster?

Hi All
Although my profile is my daughter, I adopted our six year old Standardbred mare about two months ago. We have had a few sessions because the weather has been so cold and wet. She has started to trot on cue and it is VERY bumpy and she stumbles alot. If any one has suggestions on training techniques and also wasy to keep a canter, please let me know. I am a novice rider who LOVES this horse and wants to make us a great team. Thanks Chris

Hi All
How hard is it to acheive a western jog or lope with an off-track
Standardbred?

Wow, I looked through all these groups and nothing on Standardbreds... Finally there it was... My husband owns several standardbreds which are racing and he is also breeding. I am now involved as one of his horses has been retired, Always On Guard who we/he has owned for over 10 years was retired last year and I am now taking care of him and retraining him to the saddle.. I think he is enjoying it. He is a very hard worker and is doing very well. Our daughter who rides gets on him and rides him as well. She rides him better than I do... Anyway, love the standardbreds and want to help in the education of how flexible horse they are and how they can be used in may areas of riding and pleasure as well as racing..
