I am a volunteer at J&M Acres Horse Rescue in BC, Canada.

Since 1995, J&M Acres has rescued and re-homed over 300 horses destined for slaughter.

I have never been able to connect with others that have rescue horses. My beautiful Warmblood gelding was rescued from a PMU ranch, and I have hit every bump in the road you can immagine along the way, but going from a starving, scared little horse to my best friend and partner has been amazing, and he is well on his way to being an outstanding show horse, earning his first ribbon in the hunter ring at only 3 years old, less than a year after his breaking and training started. I have tons of ideas and advise for overcoming these obsitcals and am always willing to listen and learn something new about the amazing horses we love!

Hi all,

I'm so happy to find this group! I ride at a small farm in New Jersey helping to retrain ex-racehorses so they can be sold and/or absorbed into the riding school at the farm. I find it so rewarding to get hyped-up Thoroughbreds to settle down, WTC & jump that I don't think I'll ever do anything else as a rider!

My current "charge" is a gorgeous gray, abandoned by his owner on the far. He has an old knee injury (slab fracture, I think) and he's sound but he has chronic back pain and doesn't want to trot going counter-clockwise. The farm can't afford to hire a vet/chiropractor to even look at him, in fact they are ready to give up on him altogether... meaning he needs a home or off to auction he goes.

Can anyone give me advice or suggestions on getting help for him or getting him adopted? I tried ReRun & they'll post his picture on their website, but they can't take any horses right now.

I'm running out of time and feeling very distressed! Any/all advice is appreciated!

I am a unofficial rescue. We live in a very rural area and when there is a need the people around here call me. If I have room, and often if I do not really, I will take them in and try to get them healthy in body and mind and place them with people I know will treat them right and give them a permanent home for life. I of course have several that will have their home for life right here with me. My sweet husband and terrific kids are partners with me in this mission and I just cannot say enough good about them and their HUGE contribution to this mission of ours. Our vet and farrier are so fantastic and an integral part of all we do here. We are currently collecting materials to expand the barn, my husband is a general contractor as his "other" job. lol

Hi, I just changed our group name from 'Florida Horse Lovers!' to 'Southern Horse Lovers!' for anyone in the south living for the love of horses...that said I've just adopted 'Princess' a POA mare...she rescued from grown men riding her and beating & torturing her to make her act out. She even had teeth knocked out! She's going to take LOTS of work before she is calm enough for my 4 year old to ride her..but right now Josie is just happy leading her around LOL...I've rescued horses in the past but she is exceptionally traumatized...

Hi! I've just joined this group and know I will enjoy it greatly, just adopted a POA mare that was severely abused...I've also created 2 new groups and am trying to connect with Floridians to check out & join 'Florida Horse Lovers!'...:-) 2nd group is for POA lovers--'POA's (Appaloosa Ponies)'...

have a website to have you to pass on to other people. I do have to warn you that the pictures are very graphic and probably will make you cry. But you should pass this on because it will raise awareness for these poor animals. The website is: freewebs.com/tessasordeal
