Appaloosa Lovers -can you please help? I wanted to bring attention to an amazing rescue in Southside Virginia. Jorg and Tom Mayfield run White Bird Appaloosa horse rescue and are doing amazing work. They are a team of two with just a few volunteers (I am one ) caring for 20 special needs Appaloosas and other neglected equines. All of these horses have special medical care needs from blindness to extreme malnutrition. The mission statement is "so they may live the remainder of their lives in safety and dignity". That pretty much says it all. Please check out their site www.whitebirdapps.com. I think you will be impressed with their story. They are in dire need of donations. Aside for a few grants, they are entirely self funded. Jorg works long days to make the money to care for the horses and Tom works and runs the farm. They are a certified 501C3 organization that has a paypal account on their site. Believe me,any money donated goes straight to the care of these animals. If you can donate $20, $10, $5, or whatever you can afford, you will be helping two amazing people keep helping these horses in dire need of rescue. If you live in the area I encourage you to visit or offer to volunteer. You will be amazed a the level of care these horses are getting. Please help if you can-every little bit counts! Thanks for reading this. Heather Tyler

Hello again! I changed our group name from 'Florida Horse Lovers!' to 'Southern Horse Lovers!' for anyone living in the south who lives for the love of horses! That said I'm an avid lover of flashy colored horses and have almost always had an appaloosa on hand-be it pony or horse. Right now I've just adopted a POA mare. She was recued from grown men betting on how long they could rider her, then beating & torturing her into acting out. They even knocked teeth out! She is going to need LOTS of work before she trusts human's again...
