Hello!
I have been working and riding with Wishing Well Equestrian Center in Newville, Pennsylvania for the past 9 years!

Wishing Well is a great place with over 250 acres of trails and fields. They have daily trail rides and lessons for both Western and English riders, and a large indoor (100x200) for the winter! And during the summer, they hold summer camps for whoever wishes to have a fun-filled horse summer.

If you're interested, please feel free to contact them. The other nice thing at Wishing Well, is everyone is like a huge family: always there for each other and ready to help! You wont be disappointed!

Hi. New here and could use some advice about the horse business. My current business is a training and sales business. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. I've had the business for 5 yrs, created as an LLC with a partner who does most of the training.

We started out with an initial "inventory" of 2 young, fairly expensive jumper prospects and 3 OTTBs. We had a Grand Prix rider show the $$ ones. Our hope was that one or both would sell within 18 mos to help purchase our own farm.
The TBs were all sold within a year but while for over twice the original cost, not enough to show a profit. Then one $$ horse fracturex a sesamoid. The other had a spiral fracture of the cannon. Both recovered and are schooling 4'6" but they are 10 & 11 yrs old without clean xrays. And the market has tanked.
Dilemma: the IRS is not going to like 5 yrs of losses but I cannot figure out what to do. I've got my own farm now. Talked about. breeding them but that won't help this year.
Any advice on what to do before the IRS puts me in jail for losing money.

I am currently working on getting my training business off the ground. I am a contact rider for Klaus Biesenthal at Bell Oaks Farm, and do pick up rides at the horse shows. I not only show my own horses but I also start all of them too.

Currently I am not in an area that provides much business when it comes to breaking and training horses. I hope to remedy that soon, but for now, I have to get buy on the one or two horses that I get in here and there.

I am glad this group is here

Hi Melinda,
I wish you were down here to break our 3 yr old Dutch Harness Horse. Do you train to drive as well?

Klaus is quite a guy. Ask him if he remembers coming to Kentucky to buy a farm and all we saw were steep hills?

I am always looking for innovative and creative ways to market my business while working with a very small budget. In the current economic market, this has become even more of a challenge. I'm wondering if the members of this group have any marketing ideas to share? What have you tried? What has worked or not worked?

Anne,
I'm exploring the world of social networknig - Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. I've read articles that show these are valuble tools, and free to use. Like you, I have a very small budget and running the whole show on my own.

Good luck,

Howdy Anne!
Have you given Vistaprint a try? They're always having free stuff... all you do is pay shipping and you can design things yourself (or have others do it for a fee). Everything I've gotten from them looks VERY professional!

Good Luck!

Hi, Laurie & Kate .. Thanks for you responses. I do already use the social networking sites and Vistaprint. I find that the sites increase my profile on the internet since they come up in Google. I like the Vistaprint products and wonder how they manage to stay in business with all the great freebies they offer. : )

Laurie, I have just sent you a request to connect through LinkedIn.

Cheers

Anne
