LOL im bad for going to work with muddy manure caked cowboy boots and dirty britches cuz ive just left the barn before coming to work. No wonder they all call me Big Country. LOL

Comment By Dawn Szabo
on March 13, 2009, 7:00 pm

LOL I love the smell. IF they bottled it, I would buy it. After I spend an afternoon at the barn and working/riding horses, I get in the car and drive home and have caught myself sniffing my shirt with a big smile on my face like someone in a silly fabric softener commercial LOL. I love the smell of the country air, horse poo, etc. Some may think its weird, but I don't care.

LOL my Mom got into my pickup truck and said I THOUGHT I GAVE BIRTH TO A GIRL!!! Only boys trucks should smell like horse poop and hay!!!! I said sorrrrrrrrry Mom. LMFAO!!!! I love the smell of horse. And hay. and even manure. and for those who think its weird, I have a sign that says "IF YOU DONT LIKE THE FACT THAT I SMELL LIKE HORSE, LEAVE!!!!" haha

Comment By Sandra Flatt

Yes, I love the way a horse smells!! Heck, you all may think I am really weird but their poop smell isn't really offensive to me either.

Must be us horse people! You're right, manure doesn't smell bad...I always say it's cause they're herbivores...my favorite scent is the smell of horses!!

Yeah, the horsey smell is so comforting! Just lean into your horse and smell...nope, the manure isn't bad smelling either. You know what? It's horse people on here! no one will think "you're weird.!"

I find the smell of my horse very comforting and relaxing, the poo smell I don't get because they are out in the pasture all the time. so there is no mucking stalls for me. When I have had a bad day or one that was stressful I go out and just hug my horse and smell her and that releases all the bad energy from the day and makes everything right with the world.

Comment By Debra Meadows

I would rather spend time with my horse than my husband. I told him he could move to the barn and I would turn the garage into the barn. lol

I agree, I love the horse smell. I smell each horse I work on. I really appreciate being able to have a barn job instead of an office job anymore! Glad I am not the only one. I also love feeding time in a barn, listening to them munch away.... bliss.

I love the smell of human sweat mingled with that of the horse. I love the little horse hairs that stick to my hands and clothes from the hugs I give my horse. I love being exhausted from playing with my girl. Before I got a horse of my own I spent my spare time just mucking out at a barn. Just to see the horses and smell them. Just to get that tinkle in my fingers when I pet them. Oh. Horse smells are the best smells in the world. No matter what your mother, father, brothers, sisters and friends say!

absolutely love the smell of my horses and barn, went to the store with my carhartt jackett smelling of my horses, I didn't notice, just so used to the smell.... nothing like it. My two relax me whether it's brushing, working, riding, or just watching them. best feeling, and oh my god if they get hurt, watch out I am like a mother bear protecting and healing.. LOL was same way with my kids.

Hey Everybody...I'm new to Equestrianlife.com. Hope to talk to some people that are into the color and pattern genetics as much as I am....I might as well be talking in another language to my family and they just look at me weird...like "huh?"...I'm most definitely a Horse Nerd. Hi my name is Stephanie and i just joined like 3 days ago. no one in my family is interested in horses either. i try to explain something and they just look at me like i am talking a different language! i trained my own horse that i got when she was two. she is a mustang and we won a blue ribbon in our first show! it was cool. i don't prefer showing but i wanted to join a Horse 4-H so i agreed. I mainly ride in McIver park.

It is spring and snowing. What a day to ride. Horses in our area are just not use to seeing white stuff much!!!

The kids were in for Easter and what a fun ride I had with the sun-in-law and future sun-in-law today on the trail. Was a lot of fun but those locus tree thorns was rough on my arms. Think we are going to have to trim some limbs up high. Anyone in Texas take a ride today?

But she does not get it. They are beautiful. But my sister does not get how I can love horses so much. They are beautiful animals that God our savior made.

Let's start some conversation with a question. Let's start with: What breed is your 'just for fun' horse, and what breed(s) make the best 'just for fun' horses?

Comment By Chelsea White
on October 14, 2008, 3:49 am

My Arab is my "just for fun". I have always had the best trail experiences on my Arabs and TBs, I think because they love to please. But my little guy is so smart, he makes you forget he's green...he's a blast to teach new things to!

Comment By Sally Easley
on October 14, 2008, 1:19 pm

BOTH my horses are my 'just for fun' horses! No more competing, jsut trail rides to enjoy. I guess the best horse is the one that is not LAME! (Can you tell I've been having a bit of an issue lately!! LOL) My QH is great cuz he's a 'steady eddie' and goes anywhere. My TWH is smooth, but just lame as of late.
And I'm new to group too, looking for horsey friends and talk. :)

My 'just for fun' horse is a registered paint mare. She's amazing! She's so quick to learn, and eager to please while still maintiaining her sense of independence.
I think crossbreeds can make the BEST kind of 'just for fun' horses. It all depends on the breeds being crossed, but when you combine the best of 2 or more breeds, you end up with an amazing horse.

Comment By Lizzie Winfield
on October 18, 2008, 3:35 am

My newest "Just for Fun" horse is a huge TB that was a rescue. For the last 13 years my MORAB has been my everything horse.... he is 24 and unfortunately his health has spiraled down ward in the last 3 months.. My TB has been a huge surprise!! She is so smart and willing and eager to please now that she has someone who loves her unconditionally.
I think that any breed of horse can be a fantastic "just for fun" horse as long as you give them a chance and have fun with them.

Comment By Tanya Isaacson
on October 22, 2008, 7:33 am

I have to say the horses that make the 'just for fun breed horse(s)' would have to be a choice of many. My favorites are Quarter Horse, Arabian, Belgian and Percheron.

My 19 yr. old Arab mare has a bad knee but she's still a good horse. I'm still able to ride her when she's not hurting, we just can't gallup or trot any more.
she still goese threw parades on a good knee day & when Grandkids are here Sassy is the horse for them.
I was feeding Sassy a Senior feed that helped muscles & joints. I believe this feed helped Sassy's leg alot as her knee doesn't bother her so much.
I wouldn't care if I could never ride this mare again or not, She's my main life, pride & joy & she'll be here with me til God calls her home.
