This group is for the people who just have horses for fun. They're not BIG competitors. A trail ride is just fine for them. Don't forget: talk to the new members, answer their questions, HELP EACH OTHER OUT!!!! =)
LOL im bad for going to work with muddy manure caked cowboy boots and dirty britches cuz ive just left the barn before coming to work. No wonder they all call me Big Country. LOL
LOL I love the smell. IF they bottled it, I would buy it. After I spend an afternoon at the barn and working/riding horses, I get in the car and drive home and have caught myself sniffing my shirt with a big smile on my face like someone in a silly fabric softener commercial LOL. I love the smell of the country air, horse poo, etc. Some may think its weird, but I don't care.
LOL my Mom got into my pickup truck and said I THOUGHT I GAVE BIRTH TO A GIRL!!! Only boys trucks should smell like horse poop and hay!!!! I said sorrrrrrrrry Mom. LMFAO!!!! I love the smell of horse. And hay. and even manure. and for those who think its weird, I have a sign that says "IF YOU DONT LIKE THE FACT THAT I SMELL LIKE HORSE, LEAVE!!!!" haha
Yes, I love the way a horse smells!! Heck, you all may think I am really weird but their poop smell isn't really offensive to me either.
Must be us horse people! You're right, manure doesn't smell bad...I always say it's cause they're herbivores...my favorite scent is the smell of horses!!
Yeah, the horsey smell is so comforting! Just lean into your horse and smell...nope, the manure isn't bad smelling either. You know what? It's horse people on here! no one will think "you're weird.!"
I find the smell of my horse very comforting and relaxing, the poo smell I don't get because they are out in the pasture all the time. so there is no mucking stalls for me. When I have had a bad day or one that was stressful I go out and just hug my horse and smell her and that releases all the bad energy from the day and makes everything right with the world.
I would rather spend time with my horse than my husband. I told him he could move to the barn and I would turn the garage into the barn. lol
I agree, I love the horse smell. I smell each horse I work on. I really appreciate being able to have a barn job instead of an office job anymore! Glad I am not the only one. I also love feeding time in a barn, listening to them munch away.... bliss.
I love the smell of human sweat mingled with that of the horse. I love the little horse hairs that stick to my hands and clothes from the hugs I give my horse. I love being exhausted from playing with my girl. Before I got a horse of my own I spent my spare time just mucking out at a barn. Just to see the horses and smell them. Just to get that tinkle in my fingers when I pet them. Oh. Horse smells are the best smells in the world. No matter what your mother, father, brothers, sisters and friends say!
YUP :) i think that smell is like a part of my soul now :)
absolutely love the smell of my horses and barn, went to the store with my carhartt jackett smelling of my horses, I didn't notice, just so used to the smell.... nothing like it. My two relax me whether it's brushing, working, riding, or just watching them. best feeling, and oh my god if they get hurt, watch out I am like a mother bear protecting and healing.. LOL was same way with my kids.
aren't you just glad they don't poop where they eat? lol.. atleast most of them don't. :D
Hi my name is Stephanie and i just joined like 3 days ago. no one in my family is interested in horses either. i try to explain something and they just look at me like i am talking a different language! i trained my own horse that i got when she was two. she is a mustang and we won a blue ribbon in our first show! it was cool. i don't prefer showing but i wanted to join a Horse 4-H so i agreed. I mainly ride in McIver park.
i do! and i hate it when someone says they stink. i have NEVER thought a horse stinks. :)
i agree! the smell of horses is very relaxing. it brings good memories, hanging out at the barn, early morning rides.... :)
Oh, I know! I love just burying my face into my horse's neck and inhaling.
My sister is not a big fan of horses. When my grandparents horse sandy that I love kissed me on the face I told my sister and she thought it was grose. I am like its cute not grose. But she does not get it. They are beautiful. But my sister does not get how I can love horses so much. They are beautiful animals that God our savior made.
I love going to the barn eairly in the morning because i have the smell of my horse in my nose all day.
Theres nothing like hanging at the barn. I find it the most relaxing thing in the world!
I love the smell of horses and some of my friends think I'm nuts.
i get told my horse is ugly all the time i know why they call him that though its because he only has one eye and they just cant see past that
When I hug and bury my face in my horses neck /mane, just gives me a calm and relaxing feeling...
i hate it when some1 calls a horse ugli or crazy...i know a girl who dose...and well i think NO horse are crazy unless u make them. well u can't really make a horse crazy i guess lol
i agree with everyone who love the smell of horses! my frineds think im crazy because I can tell the difference between the smell of horses and the smell of other animals. Its such a comforting smell to me and whenever I walk into the barn and inhale everything just seems good again (:
whenever my parents walk into the barn the cringe their noses and say "eww it smells like horses and poop" il hate it!
I really hate when people call horses smelly. I think horses have a great smell and are the most majestic creatures ever. :)
I really hate it when non-horse people call Horses "nags". How did that come to be a mean thing to call such a Beautiful animal??
the smell is comforting to me (: my friends think im crazy because I can single out the smell of horses from other animals. But its just like, my FAVORITE smell ever.
ya i love the smell of horses in the morning!
I love the smell of all the grain and alfalfa-grass, the leather, and the horses. Its the best way to start and end the day!
nothing could possibly smell better then a barn (:
i take that back.. the molasses horse cookies i bake smell pretty good
I'd Definitely would rather pick up Horse poop.... I'm NOT a dog person, :D And I definitely Love the smell of Horses!!!
My Arab is my "just for fun". I have always had the best trail experiences on my Arabs and TBs, I think because they love to please. But my little guy is so smart, he makes you forget he's green...he's a blast to teach new things to!
BOTH my horses are my 'just for fun' horses! No more competing, jsut trail rides to enjoy. I guess the best horse is the one that is not LAME! (Can you tell I've been having a bit of an issue lately!! LOL) My QH is great cuz he's a 'steady eddie' and goes anywhere. My TWH is smooth, but just lame as of late.
And I'm new to group too, looking for horsey friends and talk. :)
My 'just for fun' horse is a registered paint mare. She's amazing! She's so quick to learn, and eager to please while still maintiaining her sense of independence.
I think crossbreeds can make the BEST kind of 'just for fun' horses. It all depends on the breeds being crossed, but when you combine the best of 2 or more breeds, you end up with an amazing horse.
My newest "Just for Fun" horse is a huge TB that was a rescue. For the last 13 years my MORAB has been my everything horse.... he is 24 and unfortunately his health has spiraled down ward in the last 3 months.. My TB has been a huge surprise!! She is so smart and willing and eager to please now that she has someone who loves her unconditionally.
I think that any breed of horse can be a fantastic "just for fun" horse as long as you give them a chance and have fun with them.
I have to say the horses that make the 'just for fun breed horse(s)' would have to be a choice of many. My favorites are Quarter Horse, Arabian, Belgian and Percheron.
I have a QH gelding and i really enjor him as a just for fun horse because they cand do anything (literaly). And i love to try all kinds of different things with my horses.
hello all i guess i'm the only male here...i don't know if that good or bad..lol.... but i too have a just for fun horse.. shes a QH and is the love of my life...like all of you she is my steady eddie she will do anything for me and go anywhere i just love to ride on a nice fall day in wisconsin...
Every horse is a good trail horse even if they're spooky! It makes it even more of an adventure! I do love my tb gelding though. I love to race my friends, and i love to beat my friends (this is the only time i like competing) just for fun :)
My 19 yr. old Arab mare has a bad knee but she's still a good horse. I'm still able to ride her when she's not hurting, we just can't gallup or trot any more.
she still goese threw parades on a good knee day & when Grandkids are here Sassy is the horse for them.
I was feeding Sassy a Senior feed that helped muscles & joints. I believe this feed helped Sassy's leg alot as her knee doesn't bother her so much.
I wouldn't care if I could never ride this mare again or not, She's my main life, pride & joy & she'll be here with me til God calls her home.

All of my horses are for fun but I think my new Haflinger is going to be the best for trail riding.
My late Arab was my best "just for fun" buddy - he died last August. Now my retired show horse, Willie, (American Saddlebred) is my "just for fun" buddy. He is so-o-o comfy to ride as he gaits and is like the Duracell bunny - goes forever without tiring.
my mustang/quarter horse is so much fun to just take out in the pastures and ride.. he's such a goof and i always have a good time with him.
My "just for fun" horse is a morgan-paint cross. I love him because he's willing to try new things, go new places, he doen't rear or buck, and when he spooks, he spooks in place. He's a good guy!
My just for fun horse is my new quarter horse mare. She is a rescue horse and I have had fun training her and gaining her trust can't wait to get her out on the trails.
my just for fun horse is my new QHx gelding. hes my first horse, and i just love him to death :)
My baby is a 3 yo reg paint. I was there hours after she was born and was able to buy her when she turned 1. She was one of my nieghbors. She was born 2 months after I moved to the new place.I have always loved horses and never thought I could own one. Now that I have her my life is complete. I am learning to ride and she has been learing as well. At 50 yrs old I thouhgt it would be to late, but I find myself more alive because of her.
My quarter horses are my just for fun horses!!! they are soo fun to ride! they are my first horses and we went through alot together.
ALL 5 of my horses are my just for fun horses although 3 of them wernt always just for fun they raced for us in the thoroughbred racing industry but now they are retired and living the good life ;) i plan to break and train my 3 year old Sonya just cause i want to ;) and my horse sky and i do barrle racing and pole bending but not competativly (sp?) we just go to have fun sky has two blue eyes with a perfect heart around her left eye i just think thats kinda cool haha
i have 2 horses and both are "just for fun." my first is an 18-year-old Appaloosa mare, and my other is a little 3-year-old black QH. i personally think QHs are the best, but i love pretty much any horse (and notice i said "horse" and not "pony" lol, no offense to anyone).
I like quarter horses, because they aren't quite as high-strung as some other breeds, but they al;so have enough energy to go for a nice gallop if you feel like it!
my qh gelding is my fun horse he is 17 and takes it easiy
my paint/arab stallion is my fun horse he can be very high-strung and a challenge and other times he can be very laid back!!
my palomino mare is my just for fun horse. she is amazing and will do just about anything for me. she can be very naughty too ! :) lol i wouldnt change her for anything though ; shes my perfect horse
my just for fun horse is a paint horse named shyanne. she has been my for fun horse for about a year.
my just for fun horse is a mule by the name of molly. She is just as smooth riding and as enjoyable as any of my other horses...Which I have 4 of
My horse is a QH named Hollywood. He's 13 years old, and actually really small. He was the first horse to step on my foot. LOL. He's a lot of fun, and he loves to go fast. He is a dun, and was recently gelded. I think his biggest problem is that i spoil him way too much. LOL!
my arab Comanche is my "just for fun " horse hes in his early 20's and stiil has the spunk of a 4yr old on the trails. Hes my best buddy and my love bug!
My Fox Trotter/TWH cross is my all around horse :) she is learning the barrels and poles now
