What associations are you all showing in? We have SHOC, coming in to Colorado, an offshoot of Texas' SHOT. Also the NVRHA is growing. Not to mention AQHA VRH Shows. I am considering doing some SHOC shows next year, but I have only shown in RMQHA and AQHA up until now.

Hi Heather - I show in the Stock Horse of Texas. Our 4-H group also hosts one of the largest SHOT shows every year here in Sulphur Springs, TX. It is our fund raiser for the Horse 4-H program and we are well on our way to hosting our 4th show in July of 2012.

I placed 2nd in the Non Pro Working Cow Horse class on my Stallion Peptos Rapper Minime and now I am hooked. It is so fun and the people are great.

Is there anyone that knows of a group or trainer in the SouthWest Washington area (preferably near Olympia) that focuses on Versatility, cutting, reining?

Hi Group - I put my time into putting on a Ranch Race instead of the October VRH show. The Colorado Corral Ranch Race was at the Evergreen Rodeo Grounds about 30 miles west of Denver. We had 30 rides, great weather and a ton of fun. 13 different parts of the course: a pattern, roping, moving cattle, brush, backing, bridges, log drag, trailer loading, etc.

Hi Jana - I was looking on the AQHA website - There is a VRH show in BIllings, MT in October. I am not sure how far that is from you. There are 2 AQHA introductory shows in ID in November. You could go there and see if any of the cutters, cowhorses or reiners also do VRH. My trainer is a cutter - he ropes too. But, that is where my horses and I needed the most work. Also check out the NVRHA and the American Stock Horse Association for their schedules. Come to Colorado! Our last show of the season is Oct. 2,3 4. in Ft. Collins. Let me know what you find!

Hi Heather and members, We have a small ranch in Iowa with mostly paints. I currently have a mare that I will be working on trails and hope work more on ranch versatility. We have a quarter gelding, that if I had the time, would be a nice ranch horse. Have an older gelding who does everything, and a couple of coming 2 year olds who are bred for versatility. Look forward to attending more ranch competitions in Iowa this year. Our website is Visit Link

Thanks for writing! I wrote you back and it never showed up - we'll see if this works. Speaking of Paints, I would love to find some of the "Delta" sons to breed to, last I heard they were at Wichita Ranch but does not ever email back. Does Iowa have some good shows? Good luck to you this summer!

Heather here - What are your plans this summer - clinics, shows, lessons? I am hoping to do a show in July and one in October. I have made it out to my cutting trainer only once so far :( Summer is doing great and Trouble should be ready for some of the young horse programs. Check out a website I am helping a local magazine with at www.coloradocorral.com.

I did a couple shows in Colorado last year and had a blast. My horses are bred by a ranch that used them to work the cows, so this is a great event for them. I need to improve my roping skills and the lightness of my mare Summer as she is cutting a cow for this year.
