My horse has been out all year from a pulled stifle. It sucks. I've been just walking him for 15 min every day for months and he still isnt better. But he was on Adequan Legend and I LOVED it. It made such a difference.

unfortunitly i have expirenced to many horseinjusries my first pony severly bowed a tendon and my most recent horse befor cooper had pre stages of navicular had bercities and petiolostilites we all know what navicular is and bercities is where the bercites pouch of fluid under the coffin bone is slowly worn away leaving no cusion to aabsorb the cuncussion and petiolostilites is pretty much where ruts are formed in the bones of the legs wheere previously the blodd vessles had been very inflamed and rubbed the bone cleadr away
pippy was such an asum horse and quiet a trooper she worked through the horrific pain daily for close to 5 months and showed no signs until after our first 3 day luckly we were leasing her and she is now home with her mommy who pampers her to death

Hi Peps,
last july i was riding my three year old in the pasture and herand my friends horse oscar spooked at a flock of birds. Pica Boo only being three wen "ohh okay i need to spoke" so she ran out of the pond (She rolled with me a couple of minutes earlier) my saddle slipt, i can under, fell off, and on my way doen i hit a tree, rocks, concret, and mud, and got tampled by her. (she brooke my helmet.) I came up fine i just have a scar across my back, but she got the back of her knee chpoed of. I couldnt ride her for three months. She lost all her training, and we had to supper glue the cut back together. Then a months later she git proud flesh, had to cut that off. Now she is left with a nasty scar that might just count against me in sport horse in hand. But, thats okay, i still love her the same. Even more when she takes me to nationals!

i have had MANY horses with injuries my horse sky split her head open and you could pull back the skin. i could still ride her but i never worked her during that time because well if you had awould you want someone making you run around ??? my horse Garret was a thoroughbred racer who race for us and he came in 3 place with a broken leg not really sure how he did that but anyway he healed form that and during his retirment when he was about 17 years old it looked like some one had shot him in the face his cheek was swolen and we still arent sure what happened. he also foundered when he was just fresh of the race track. and to think he has lived through all of that and is still alive amazes me but he is a happy 19 year old today :) his sister filly aka Rare Dark Angel developed a hoof condition that was very painfull and was forced to retire from the race track but her hooves are fine now. Our breeding mare MAMa who is also a retired racer was defending her foal sonya one night when a pack of cyoties tried to eat her O_o haha i guess thats why sonya loves to chase dogs now ?? any way mama had a big chunckof meat taken out of her belly but it healed and scarred over. and sonya will never race because she has hurt her legs to many times when she was younger and we are scared if she races she will break down and i dont want that to happen to my baby girl :) among the funny injuries i have incountered is where one of our horses tried to jump the fence but his back end didnt quite make it haha he wasnt really hurt but i bet his pride didnt come out in one peice ;)

Hello!
Its nice to know that there is a group like this :) On June 26, 2008, I got a compound elbow dislocation that led to 3 surgeries. I rode a horse that a friend wanted me to ride. She didn't tell me how green this mare was. I had been on her for an hour, just riding in the round pen, taking it easy. She then started freaking out, before I knew it I was on the ground in the most pain I had ever experienced in my whole life. Trying to get up (which I failed at miserably) I saw a puddle of blood coming from my elbow. My friend called the ambulance and told them that she could see my elbow joint (luckily I couldn't haha). That night I had an emergency surgery that lasted 1 1/2 hours. The surgeon said that I had a compound dislocation and that I would have been better off breaking it :/ 3 days later I had another surgery just to clean it out (They were so worried about infection, they piggybacked 72 hours worth of antibiotics into me) The surgeon seriously thought about flying me out to get my arm amputated. So all in all I spent 6 days in the hospital and months of physical therapy. Not knowing that my elbow would be unstable after all of this. 9 months later I tore all the scar tissue and got reconstrucive surgery. They took a tendon from my wrist and put it in my elbow. Not riding has made me crazy! By the time I will be able to ride again it will be 2 years since the accident.

I like this group :) It's hard to get through alone. I've been on and off for five years due to the ligaments in my ankles being deformed. I had to quit jumping because the impact of landing would make my ankles snap. But I'm extremely stubborn and kept training and jumping smaller jumps anyways haha. But now both of my ankles have gone out and I am in a wheelchair until further notice, on the waiting list for surgery. I can barely even get into the barn because of how the ground is set up. I know I'll be back eventually, but it just sucks at the time, you know? But we;ll all get through it!

Hang in there Devon, you are a real trooper to keep trying. Do the stirrup irons that have bend in them help you at all? For example, the Herm Sprenger stirrups? Visit Link

I have used them for years, and they seem to help me take pressure off my joints.

Thanks. Those stirrups are actually worse because they crank my heel down too far...no stirrups is actually better for my legs :)

Hi there, I broke my left arm humeres being thrown off a horse that a friend wanted me to ride. She neglected to tell me how green this mare was and I neglected to ask more questions about her. I have missed precious time working with my 8 month old filly. I have been getting a little more time with her, but not the full amount that I would like. My doc said that I have to wait unitl at least March before I can ride again. I have been thrown, trampeled, bit, and other things from horses and dirt bikes, but I have never broke anything. I now find myself afraid to get back on a horse because of the fear of re-injury or new injury. I have never hurt for so long as I have with this broken arm. I love horses and don't ever want to fear getting back on. I have been doing some ground work with my filly and that helps a lot to get my fear level down. Is there any suggestions out there on how you worked through the ptsd after an injury? I would appreciate any suggestions or advice.

My advice is to take your time. Start by getting back on a horse that you know is very safe and you don't have to worry. Don't try to rush it. I have had some really bad falls, and sometimes it just took taking a deep breath, not allowing any negative thoughts in my head while I was on and just doing it.

I broke my left humuras bone last Sept. 2008, when my horse spooked and my saddle slipped. I tried , hanging on so I could get him to stop because I knew I did not want to hit the ground, but instead of getting him to stop he took off at a full run for you life gallop, so by the time i did hit the ground he was going full speed. I know my helment saved my head, but my arm was not so lucky. I broke it all the way through the bone.

It took me 4 months to heal enough to go back to work, I am still not back to normal. It was the first time I ever broke a bone. It was the worsest I had ever been hurt. I started by doing a lot of ground work and just riding in the round pen. I finally got brave enough to take him out of the pen again. I did good the first few time, but now this past week he threw me off again, by stopping and spinning around really fast. I went flying off and landed on my right side. I brusied by ribs pretty badly. Now I am thinking about getting rid of that horse and getting one that is safer to ride. But I do not know.

I think that is a good idea Mary. He does not sound safe for you. He needs professional training and you need a horse that will help rebuild your confidence.

I would definitely leave the young or untrained horses to a professional. You need a horse that has been around the block, and will help build your confidence. That is the most important thing, safety and confidence. Those two things will help you to become a better rider and horse person.
