This is for all people who enjoy riding their western horse through trails, barrels, pole, and big-time shows. Your riding level doesn't matter, we all share a love for western riding and, of course, our horses that make it happen. We share stories and pictures, anything exciting about us and our horse's lives. We can teach eachother from our mistakes, and give advice to people with a problem on their hands or a novice rider. We, the western riders of today, can help old and new riders, for tomorrow!

Hi i live in Iowa and have 4 quarter horses and one pony. I have been riding all my life my father gave me the love of horse and we always had plenty of them growing up. I love to horse camp and trail ride as often as I can. Looking for a used trailer so I can take my grandkids and do lots of camping this summer.

I love to ride my horses in all disciplines! They are used to showrings, water, bridges at parks, wildlife, chasing cattle, and can go English or western. It is so cool that you can just get up and take them anywhere to do whatever is expected of them. Horses really do want to please their riders and it is awesome when you hear that first nicker of the morning :o) Shelley

I am fairly new to this site. I enjoy western riding & willing to try anything with my horses. This summer I am going to start soccer with my horses. I do have my mom to go ride with which is a blast. I can not wait til my daughters go with us. One is only 7 months. The other I have to find a small horse for her.

Hello, I just joined Equestrian Life and have been looking around at the groups and the Q&A's and seeing what everything has to offer. I came across your group and it seems like a lot of fun.
I ride soley westren and have 5 horses, my husband and I do a lot of cattle work around the farm. I'm also a VP in a horse club where we go to parades and do honour gaurds for Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Ab. It is a ton of fun and a great way to get out with your horse and ride in a challanging setting.

Question Time!:
-My horse has a hard time calming down after a run, how/what can I do to calm her down?

When answering to this question type "Question Time Reply" that way know one gets confused. That would be bad, so I can't wait to hear from any of you! Have a great time on the site!

well i barrel race and one of my horses is 15 and after i run she is so hyped up. i calm her down by getting off of her and just walking her around. i also try to stay by other horses if i stay on to calm her down. hope that info could help you in some way.

You might try woring her quietly on the pattern at home or when you practice, and dont run her home. After you turn your third barrel make her stop and walk. After a run just walk her and get her mind back on you and relaxing.

I do the same as what Tanya said, either hand walk or walk with someone else, at first she may have a hard time keeping a walk, but after a while she should get the ritual and her body should clam down more. Concentrate on keeping her walk, to let her heart rate go back down.

I just started gaming this past summer on one of my coaches horses, a 24y/o Quarter Horse named Joe. We had a great summer with great results. About a month ago I bought my own horse, Casper, an 11 y/o Paint gelding that we're going to get tuned into me and make him a gamer and just an all-round horse.
