Great story, so like all of yall, i have had the biggest passion for horses. I begged my parents for lessons, but it was never considerd. I always grew up in urban areas, but always managed to find horses somewhere! Anytime my family went on vacation, it was a must to go on a trail rides. When i got older and still was begging for a horse and lessons, my dad said, "If you love them that much, you will get a job and find a way to pay for lessons. If you love them that much, then you will pick up their poop just to be around them." So, living in katy tx, i found a local ranch that tought lessons and asked the lady if i could work cleaning the stalls and taking care of the horses in return for lessons. After being tuned down by her 3 times because i had no prior experiance or real knowlage of horses she finally gave in. So i started cleaning 20 stalls everyday and feeding 30 horses, washing, cliping, taking care or their hooves, fixing broken fences so on. Finally after a year she asked me if i would like to take on a task. She had an appaloosa and was once a good horse but went completely sour. If i could fix him, he would be mind to ride when ever i pleased. So i spent almost 6 months of getting bucked, thrown into fences, fought with untill one day we just clicked. I was soo inlove and happy with my new friend untill i was told a young girl was going to buy him and take him away to her ranch. I was devistated. I worked so hard. So one day i decided to go up to our local equestrian center to watch a reining compitition and while i was there was approached by a trainer. He had herd about my hard work and wanted me to come ride for him! It was one of the biggest opportunities that i ever had but would be cut short for only a summer because i had to start up college agian. As a waitress at a local pub, i ran into a guy who came by to pick up his brother. He noticed on my checkbook that i had a picture of the horse i once took care of. He asked if i rode, and i said yes, reining. In shock he replied that he trained reiners and owned about 40 horses. I was hooked in envy. He asked if i would like to come ride sometime and of course i said yes! Soon enoughf i relised not only did he work around horses and live my biggest passion, but he was one of the nicest guys i had ever met. One day he turned to me and said, pick any horse, and he is yours. I started to cry in shock, it was like a girl getting a wedding ring. I was shaking in excitement! Expecting me to pick one of his nice quarter horses i turned to him when i spotted something that stopped me in my tracks. I pointed out into a field and asked, "is that your appaloosa?!?" he said yes almost confused. "I pick him!" i exclaimed and he was shocked by my choice. He told me he haddent beed riden in a year and never really was trained. I didnt care. I asked him what his named was and he told me chester. How perfect. So i marched out there expecting him to run but instead he called for me almost like he has known me his whole life. I put the halter on and knew he was the one. Only 5, he had the wisdom and kindness of an old experinced ranch horse. I spend 4 months of training and now he is one of the best, most willing horses in the stable. Me and the guy, "Jon" are dating and are inceprable and love eachother to death. We share a huge passion for horses and work hard together in the sport of reining. It littlerally took 10 years of being told no, and being turned down. and there were times i thought god just didnt have it planned for me to be around horses. But after countless months of hard work and let downs and prayer, i belive it was all a plan to finally let me be appart of this wonderful world of horses.

I have been asking for a horse ever since I could talk. I am now a 45 1/2 year old woman taking western riding lessons!! Having fun and loving the experience. In April I am returning to my favorite riding place, Southern Cross guest ranch in Georgia. I am counting the days!!

I'm 39 and just started riding lessons too! I'm a nurse and have always loved horses but never had the time or money to take lessons. My husband isn't into riding and my kids are too young for company so hopefully I can meet some people in my area to ride with. I'm in NC, where are you? How much does it cost to go to Southern Cross?

This is the perfect group for me. I absolutely love any horse time and experience I can get but I don't have my own. Fortunately I live 5 minutes from the stables I take lessons and lease from. I'm hoping to get my own horse in the next few years though. Horses are my favorite drug ~ I can never get enough !!

I have had a passion for horses since I knew about them and still at age 17 it is a goal of mine to own a horse some day. Right now i'm living in the city with my parents and can not have one. Once I move out though and have enough money then I will definitely get one.
