I was a 4H Member back in 2006 with my best friend who now owns 6 horses and boards 2 for other people. We have been best friends since we were still learning how to walk, talk, and ride and have been together ever since! We were both in our 4H club together for 3 years and loved it, but then the group broke up because one of our beloved leaders left because she was super busy with her own horses and children and just life in general, and then my other leader couldn't handle it on her own and so the group just kind of drifted off and it's never been ever since, which is sad because I would have loved to still be in that group today, since I'm now adopting a horse of my own so it would have made it a lot more fun, but yeah I'll always love 4H, maybe one day I'll create a 4H group of my own when I move out to Kentucky for college! =)

I was a member of 4-H for 11 years or so. The last 5 I got into the horse project and learned so much. I finally bought my own horse last June and am a 4-H leader now!

Hey all! Just wanted to say hi. We are seriously involved in 4-H here. I am a 4-H leader in a very large horse club. Both my daughters, ages 13 and 17 have been competing and showing in 4-H since they were 8 yrs old. We totally enjoy it, and the kids work hard. We are in Nebraska, anyone else from the Midwest?

Well you can first try to find the local 4H clubs in your area by contacting your local 4H office. To locate this office, you can either do a search online for your state and 4H or go the the national 4H website. Visit Link

From there, go to the tab saying 'Get Involved' and click 'Join.' This should bring you to a map where you can choose the state you are in and find the office. It will give you the phone number and a link to your state's 4H website.

4H has a lot of opportunities for individuals of all interests. Try to find a club that will incorporate the hobies and subjects he enjoys!

Good luck!

We've done little day trips to Falling Branch, a waterfall near us. We also go the the river which is close to us for a day of swimming and a cook out. We have holiday parties for Christmas, Halloween, etc. One of our meetings was a mystery night and he kids had to figure out who was the murderer. For our meetings, we typically hold them outside on the farm, weather permitting. We always have a bonfire going and have smores afterwards. Sometimes the kids will come early for some riding time in the arena. We also do trail rides and practice our gaming events for fun. Hope this helps!

Hey everyone!
I'm Chelsea Jo and I am the president of the Silver Spurs 4-H club in Harford County, MD. This is my second year in 4-H and my second term as president. We have a lot of members in our club and it is still growing. I ride english and western. I own a 7 year old Appaloosa mare named Imprince Sno Dreamer. I bought her as an unbroken 5 year old and I broke and trained her myself. At our first 4H show, we took home 10 ribbons, nothing worse than 4th, top placement was Champion Mare at Halter.

I love meeting new people and talking about horses and 4H, so feel free to talk to me!

I was surprised to see there wasn't a group on here already for 4-H. I am fairly new to our club...3 rd year as Light Horse Leader and loving it very much. I always had horses growing up, rode in many clinics, mock fox hunts, did "mini" eventing clinics, owned the MOST BEAUTIFUL appendix light bay gelding ever created and when I became a teenager kind of got out of it. The love never died, just seemed to spend more time with friends than at the barn. I had my Dakota until I was 22 yrs old, we had to put him down due to heaves - we bought him in Florida and brought him home one winter and blanketed him, he ended up with pneumonia and from then on - heaves!!! I kept him outdoors from then on year round with run in, him and Molly the mule. So, after he passed I went on to University, got married and moved to the country. A flyer came in our mail for this 4-h club...I had heard about it but living in the city growing up, there were none. I immediately called the contact person and found out what it was all about and signed up both kids. Our daughter did scrapbooking then light horse the following year but has since decided that she would rather work and hang out (same as me when I was her age) and my son is in his third year of Light Horse. He was a Cloverbud starting out and an adult had to be present so I, of course, went to every light horse session to be had...mucked out stalls just like the kids, groomed and grinned every minute on the drive home. I was in heaven, our neighbors had horses and I was going to help out with the light horse group. From that moment on, I started to hint around to my husband about getting a horse and boarding it...or, I said we have 7 acres and all a horse needs is shelter like a run in...he wouldn't have it...he said he couldn't bare to look out at the in the winter and see them in a run in (notice I said them) so we built a 34X34 barn...we cleared the land ourselves and built the barn with a lot of friends' help!! We now have 5 horses...Steel is a reg qh, 27 yrs old and brought many a kids up, Archie is an app/thoroughbred, 9 yrs old and green broke ( he was a pasture ornament most of his life); Ginger - my girl, 6 yr old belgian/qh dun - and what a pretty mare she is, we then heard about Buddy (husband's horse) a reg paint that was not being used and we practically stole him from the guy - well broke gelding with lots of shows under his belt and he's 10 this summer and then we have dear little Ellie Mae...she is either a canadian x pony or newfoundland pony - would love it if I was able to find out the real truth about her but she was a SPCA rescue and we for obvious reasons don't want to nor can we contact previous owners. So, that's it in a nut shell...long and sweet about life at what we call Wits End!
