I ride whenever I can, I have 5 horses, one is a 6 year old Reg. Appaloosa stallion, a 21 year old Arabian/Quarter horse, an 8 year old Reg. Quarter horse mare due to foal in a few days, a 3 year old Reg. Quarter horse filly, and a Reg. yearling Appaloosa gelding, I ride the stallion who I am working on getting to do sliding stops and roll backs and have life time non pro points in gaming, the arab/quarter, whom I can rope off of, and do much of anything, does trail rides well. my 3 year old is green broke but is coming along beautifully.

I rode Eng. all my life. Showed the "A" circuit competitively ... But, in high school, my sister married and roper and she started to ride western more and began to run barrels.

After riding on my college's equestrian team, I took one of her young horses that she and her husband broke western... needless to say I never gave him back and really took on western riding, and LOVE IT! I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

I take advantage of every opportunity to learn from a professional, but what I also found, is western is a lot like dressage. If you have any dressage background, its going to help you tremendously.

This past year, I also did some AQHA shows, which I rode my horse both eng. and western. (On different days) It was a bit of a challenge, but we were up for it. Making the transition smoothly is key, without any large hic-cups and not getting frustrated. But, I primarily ride western now.

Good luck!
