switch and compare ideas for training a horse to do anything. including roping, dressage, jumping, and even westurn.
i have a boarder at my barnwho has a 17'2 appedix bread that is the same way the running is probbibly due to not trusting your hands becuase of a previous bad experience i'd also recomend a few good hacks just to show him he doesn't have to collect and work hard every time your on him and also to help at shows i'd take him along with some other horses to the show but don't show him just hack him around the grounds to let him experience the new place as a horse let him learn to trust you
i can help with specific questions i'm a horse trainer send me a message
Hi there, at Elmwood Stables we train horses using Natural Horsemanship methods I know your post was back in January but we deal with horses of all kinds with all sorts of different issues or tendencies. We take outside horses and give lessons so if you need any advice or questions feel free to ask I would be more then happy to see if I can help you out or offer my advice. =)
i have retrained many abused horses and problem horses the best way to work with a strong minded or bad attitude horse is to go bck get the horse to trust you on the ground then trust you in the saddle and in his mouth most horses become handfuls from bad experiences that make them not want to trust people. gain his trust then work on trianing
Cool, starting colts is my favorite thing to do with horses, finishing is ok, but putting the basics in is my favorite, I've started a handful now, and every one has been a learing expierience!
The basics are my favorite too. I have found the ground work to be the most important and effective. I have started to ground drive all my yearlings, then I learned about backwards ground driving-that really makes lateral movement a breeze at a later date!
i may be adopting a young colt. he is a QH. I would apprissiate it if any one who knows anything about training would message me. I have done some training in the past but not much.
