Valerie Kanavy won 3 World Cup Endurance races before she ever had 1 lesson! Read her life story in my new book, Women Riders Who Could... and Did. See a 3-min video book trailer at YouTube at kkarma100. And go to my website at www.HuckleHillPress.com to read an excerpt and testimonials.

HI I am a rider new to Endurance, I rode my first race this summer (50 miles!) and crewed at four others in BC Canada. It only takes one before you're hooked!

hello, I am a novice CTR, I have rode in three different rides. The last one I tryed my horse spooked and threw me breaking my arm. So now that I am healed and the weather is warming up. I started doing ground work with him. I want to de sensitize him a lot more, before I ride him again. I must admit that I did not pay enough attention to that area of his training in the past. He seems to take for ever to accept anything new. I spent 4 hrs at least yesterday showing him the umbrella. I got to the point where I could walk up to him and stand next to his shoulder on the left side without him freaking and running he stood still and let me stroke him with my free hand while i held the open umbrella. When I had it it closed he would let me rub his shoulder and neck area. That is as far as I got. It is so frustrating to me, now today the weather is so bad I can not go outside and work with him, and so i will have to start over again the next time I show him the umbrella. But hopefully I will get farther. He is a good horse and he is wonderful to ride except for the fact that he is spooky of new objects or things. Most of the time I can deal with the spooks and his jumping, but now that I have been thrown and hurt I do not want to put up with it like I use too. Any idea's and tips anyone has I would appreciate.

Hey there, I live East of Colorado Springs and am pretty new to the area. I was wondering if anyonne knew of any good training rides I could do out here - doesn't have to be where I live, I certainly don't mind hauling my horse somewhere. I just want somewhere where I can go ALL day without doing the same trail twice - and if anyone would like to join me, let me know!

I would join you! I live in Colorado Springs and have my horse boarded in Parker for the time (hopefully I can move him closer soon). The only long trails I know of are in the mountains, I usually start at the lower Pike National Forest and ride up Mt. Herman, but there are tons more areas around there. I have a book on equestrian-friendly trails in Colorado, I'll look more up in there.
