After everyride my horse gets another short massage, and I rub his legs, hocks, and back down with liniment, as he gets worked fairly hard. He loves it. But I've been wanting to maybe try a different brand. Right now I'm using the Bigeloil, and I've been doing some research on a natural herbal liniment. So, I would love it if I could get some more ideas on some liniments that ya'll like, and the more natural, less chemicals the better. :)

Hello,

I'm trying to retrain an ex-racehorse (a gorgeous gray). He has an old knee injury (slab fracture, I think) and he's sound but he has chronic back pain and doesn't want to trot going counter-clockwise. He's a charity case - I don't own him - and the owner can't afford to hire a vet/chiropractor to even look at him, in fact they are ready to give up on him altogether.

Can anyone give me advice or suggestions on treatment/who to call to help? We're in NJ. I have no idea how much chiropractic costs, how long it can take, etc. Will a chiropractor need to coordinate with a vet to assess what might be causing the back pain?

I'm running out of time and feeling very distressed! Any/all advice is appreciated!

Hello,

Due to a long sad story my stallion was leased out and returned to me almost starved to death. In addition to losing muscle mass/weight, he also had severe atrophy from standing in a stall for over four months with no turnout. He was also flipped over, from what I can gather from witnesses. I have had a chiropractor come work on him with very good results. I am wanting to try acupuncture on him as well. He has been taken to Dr. Blackwelder for a lameness exam and he feels it is more of a muscle/tendon issue due to atrophy. Any ideas or comments regarding rehabilitation for my stallion? All comments and ideas are welcome.

I would suggest watching his feed carefully and making sure he is on a low protein diet *12%* Also have you thought of Massage mixed with Chiropractic? If there is a muscle/tendon issue - make sure his feet are done regular and proper to keep the tendons in his legs healthy while he is putting on weight and muscle again.

Hello :) Very excited to talk with others that feel there are better/healthier ways to heal and keep our horses healthy and do it as naturally as possible.
I am a bare hoof care specialist, with a passion for on/off the track thoroughbreds. In a world where people seem to always question the horse's ability to function/heal themselves the way nature intended....I look forward to talking/sharing with those open to methods of better care (sometimes swimming against the normal tide of thinking;)

Two comments here: #1 What is out there in the horse world for equine COPD? I know all the basics - no dust, ventipulmin with care, antihistimine, limited stall time, and at chronic times, a steroid. Is there more OUT THERE? A supplement perhaps that strengthens the weakened respiratory system? Also, years ago, I had a horse with a hock problem from a trailer ride with a disreputable hauler and it was swollen for many months. I finally bought one of those magnetic hock wraps and the swelling went down within a day. It was the most unbelievable thing I had ever seen. There must be something to magnetic therapy. She did not wear the wrap all day, only for 1/2 days. Shelley

Chronic COPD is often caused by digestive allergies that create an immune and inflammed response in the lungs. It is possible to try a "clean diet" with no commercial feeds of timothy pellets for 6 weeks and see if symptoms subside, any non-organic corn or soy is suspect since they are GMO, if you are unfamiliar with the side effects of eating Genetically Modified Organisms check out the website www.seedsofdeception.com. Eighty percent of animals consuming non organic soy have allergies.
Good luck,
Maddrey

Hi all I am so excited to join this group. I am an equine aromatherapist and use aromatherapy and acuppresure to enhance the performance and attitude of equine companions. I also manufacture a line of safe non toxic botanical horse care products called Equi-Spa. I am interested in meeting people who share my passion for horses and subscribe to alternative or complimentary therapies for horses. My vet and I work together on some levels. She has even started recommending me or my products for some clients of hers. Looking forward to some great discussions and learning from all of you

Hi All! My name is Elizabeth Pedley, and I started this group due to the impressive results I've observed as an equine massage therapist and those I've observed in our horses after receiving acupuncture and chiropractic (in addition to traditional veterinary care). I'm curious about other experiences, and I'm dedicated to learning more from and educating horse enthusiasts about how to strive for healthier well-rounded maintenance programs. I look forward to reading your stories, comments, suggestions, and questions.
