Boomerang is a young horse I purchased as a weanling at a local sale. He was the baby at the sale everyone went "aaawwww" over, the only baby there. He was whinnying, clearly upset because they probably just took him off his mother, and had a cut above his eye. Bought him for $105! It was January 2005, they were going so cheap. As a yearling, he began to display hind end lameness--at first the vet I was using said he probably had a degenerative arthritis condition and eventually I may have to put him down. I balled like a baby. Then, I took him to the wonderful folks at Valley View Animal Clinic in Dover, OH, and they x-rayed him and told me no arthritis! They said, "We think it's just torn ligaments and eventually he'll be fine." What a relief! Although, torn ligaments are something that takes a long time to recover from. Boomerang has gone on to become a cantankerous, boisterous young horse, and at over 16 hands now, he's the largest horse on the farm! Still thinks he's "the baby." I call him "The Giraffe." We (husband and I) trained him ourselves--he's coming along well, but slow, due to me committing more time to my endurance horses. Boom isn't a competitive horse to ride, likes to mosey at his own pace. He's such a pretty boy--that coat of his practically turns white in the summer. I'm proud to be his owner!
