Cadre Noir[1] The premier troupe of the French Cavalry School in Saumur, France. The name comes from the riders' black hats and tunics. Composed of twelve officers and twelve noncommissioned men, the Cadre Noir train and present their horses in haute cole dressage and in jumping; riders take part in dressage, combined training, and show jumping competitions.
