Grand Slam Farm

Grand Slam Farm is a partnership between Robert Baker and William Mack. Baker, who lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, is chairman and CEO of National Realty and Development Corporation, based in Purchase, N.Y. He and his wife, Christina, have been in racing for over a quarter of century and have raced most of their horses in partership, including 1987 Irish Derby (Ire-G1) winner Sir Harry Lewis and Champagneforashley, winner of five of six lifetime starts including the 1990 Tampa Bay Derby. Baker hired D. Wayne Lukas to pick some colts out at the 1996 Keeneland September yearling sale; one of those turned out to be Grand Slam. Campaigned in partnership with David Cornstein and William Mack, Grand Slam won a pair of grade 1 races (Futurity and Champagne) before running unsuccessfully in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) in 1997. The colt returned to the Breeders' Cup in 1998, finishing second in the Sprint (G1). Grand Slam is now a successful sire at Ashford Stud. Mack, who is married to Phyllis, lives in New York City and is co-chair founder and managing partner of Apollo Real Estate Advisors. He attended University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School where he serves on the Board of Overseers and as vice chairman of the Board of Trustees. In 1999, the William and Phyllis Mack Center for Technological Innovation was named to honor the couple’s many contributions. Baker and Mack currently maintain a partnership with horses in Lukas' care. They purchased Flying Private for $700,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
