Kyle Carter lives outside Ocala, Florida, on his prophetically-named "Five Rings" horse farm and training center. You may remember him flying around the cross-country course at Rolex or heard about his fifth-place finish at the Pan Am Games in Brazil last year.
But when it comes time to compete, Kyle Carter wears the maple leaf, not the stars and stripes, on his saddle pad.
For the first time, the 40-year-old Alberta native represented his home country at the Olympics. Riding the known-to-be-mischievous 10-year-old American ex-racehorse Madison Park, Carter where is placed 35th in the individual competition and 9th in the team competition.
To stay fit Kyle does a lot of running. He used to compete in running when he was younger and he also is hoping to compete in a marathon in the next couple of years.
The people Kyle looks up to most of all are those that are there to give him advice when he really needs it. Leslie Law (event rider in England); Gina Smith; Peter Gray and Jeffery Taylor all have been people in Kyle’s life willing to provide him with advice at key times.
Kyle and his wife Jennifer have bought a farm in Ocala, Florida and a lot of his hopes for the next 5 years lie in it. He would like to have the farm completed and up and running. This includes building a house, which the property currently does not have. He would also like to have another 10 horses in the barn to expand his sales business.
