Miguel Mena was born November 6, 1986 in Lima, Peru. He is not married and currently resides in Lexington, Ky. He comes from a trainer background. His father Jose Mena had been a jockey for seventeen years. His brother, Alderly is a popular Jockey in Peru. His Uncle is also a trainer with Alderly.
He had a racing background since beginning, as his brother and uncle are trainers in Peru. He started his career at the age of twelve when he left school to enroll at Jorge Bernardini Yori Jockey School. In January 2003, he recorded his first win at the famous Jockey Club of Peru. Later in the year 2004, he shifted to Florida and rode in the Florida Circuit for next seven months. In 2006, he shifted to Chicago. In October 2008, he was ranked 40th with a total earnings of 4,530,062. He had recoded 139 wins from 977 mounts.
