Mike Winter has been named to the Canadian Eventing Team Short or Long List every year since 1996 having competed in numerous FEI-level competitions on a variety of horses. Riding Balista, Mike represented Canada at the 2003 Pan American Championships where he was the top placed Canadian, securing the Team Silver Medal. The following year, 2004, the pair made their Olympic debut in Athens where they were again Canada’s top finishers. In 2007 Mike accomplished another pinnacle in his career by being selected for the Pan American Games in Brazil aboard Kingpin. The pair had an impressive result finishing eighth individually and winning a team silver medal.
So far in 2008, Mike has won the extremely competitive Red Hills International CIC*** on the horse Wonderful Will in March. Both Wonderful Will and Kingpin were then short-listed for the Olympic Games. Mike and Kingpin were chosen as one of the horse/ride pairs to represent Canada and spent the summer at Training Camp and then were off to Hong Kong to the Games. Mike has been ranked in the top five on the USEA Leaderboard for most of 2008 and should finish impressively in the national standings.
