Shaun Bridgmohan was born June 24, 1979 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. He currently resides in Hempstead, N.Y. with sons Alexander and Steve. His younger brother Jermaine also is a jockey, based at Calder.
- Through Oct. 5, 2008, Bridgmohan stood 15th in the nation with earnings of $7,296,297 and 133 winners from 746 mounts. He was winning at an 18% clip, finishing in the money 47% of the time.
- Top mounts of 2008 included Student Council (G1 Pimlico Special), Pyro (G2 Louisiana Derby), Sterwins (G3 Ben Ali Stakes), and Z Fortune (G3 LeComte Stakes).
- Best result from five Breeders’ Cup mounts was a second-place finish aboard Pyro in the 2007 Juvenile. He also rode Evening Attire and Appealing Zophie, who both ran fourth in the 2002 Classic and the 2006 Juvenile Fillies, respectively.
- The Eclipse Award-winning apprentice of 1998, Bridgmohan finished among the top 10 riders in New York from 1998-2003, and ranked among top 20 jockeys nationally by earnings in 2002, 2005, and 2008.
- Has proven versatility as a multi-location rider, taking the Arlington Park riding title in 2005, and also bringing home top honors at Aqueduct (1998) and Churchill Downs (2006)... Currently divides his time between Kentucky, New York, and Florida.
- Three Kentucky Derby mounts the past three years have been Private Vow (15th, 2006), Zanjero (12th, 2007) and Pyro (9th, 2008).
- Moved from Jamaica to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., when he was 13, and was introduced to racing by his father, Gerald, an avid fan who took him to Calder. However, his father wouldn’t let him become a jockey until he graduated from high school.
- Biggest influence on his career was the late Florida trainer Oliver (Buddy) Edwards. “I galloped for him. Once I started riding, he was my biggest supporter.”
- First win was on Glitter Lad at Calder in 1997 ... First stakes winner and graded stakes winner was Panama Canal in the Next Move Handicap in 1998 ... First Grade 1 winner was in the 2000 Carter Handicap on Brutally Frank. He won the following year’s Carter aboard Peeping Tom.
- Won three stakes at Gulfstream on Jan. 7, 2006 – the Hal's Hope, the Mr. Prospector and the Aventura. He then added a win in the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes the next day.
- Recipient of the Caribbean Sportsman Award, given to outstanding Jamaican athletes.
