Terry Thompson

Terry Thompson (born August 7, 1971 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a jockey in North American Thoroughbred horse racing. He got his start in racing from Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg. Thompson started hotwalking and grooming horses for the trainer and later galloped for him. He got his jockey’s license in 1993 at Turfway Park. Thompson came close to the Kentucky Derby in 2003 aboard Sir Cherokee, who scratched 24 hours before the race due to injury. In Kentucky Derby 136, Dublin will be the mount for Thompson in the historic race. Thompson’s biggest win to date came in the 2004 Acorn Stakes on Island Sand, who also finished second in that year’s Kentucky Oaks.

In recent years, Thompson has dominated the jockey colony at Prairie Meadows in Iowa and Oaklawn Park in Arkansas.
