Todd Pletcher

Todd Pletcher was born June 26, 1967 in Dallas Texas. Todd is married to Wife Tracy. The couple has two sons, Payton and Kyle and on daughter Hannah.

Todd Pletcher grew up around horses as his father, J.J. Pletcher, trained Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds. Two weeks after graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in animal science, he went to work for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. He stayed with Lukas for six years, eventually becoming his main East Coast assistant trainer. Pletcher went out on his own at the end of 1995 and soon established himself as a top conditioner. In 2005, he became the first trainer to crack $20 million in purse earnings, with his runners raking in more than $20.8 million. The following year, Pletcher achieved further milestones. He surpassed Lukas' record of 92 stakes victories in a single season, finishing 2006 with 100 stakes wins, and his stable earned more than $26.8 million. Pletcher again shattered his own record in 2007, ending the year with more than $28.5 million in earnings. For his efforts, he earned four straight Eclipse Awards as the nation's outstanding trainer (2004-2007), a feat matched only by Hall of Famers Bobby Frankel (2000-2003) and Laz Barrera (1976-79). The list of Pletcher-trained champions includes Kentucky Oaks (G1) winners Rags to Riches, the first filly to take the Belmont S. (G1) in 102 years, and Ashado; Breeders' Cup stars English Channel and Speighstown; distaffers Fleet Indian and Wait a While; and older males Lawyer Ron and Left Bank. Pletcher has yet to win the Kentucky Derby, with his best finishers being runners-up Bluegrass Cat (2006) and Invisible Ink (2001). In 2007, he equaled the record by saddling five Kentucky Derby starters. Circular Quay ran the best of the quintet in sixth.
