Bill Casner

WinStar Farm is owned by Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt. The Troutts live in Dallas; the Casners reside in Flower Mound, Texas. Troutt founded Excel Communications, a long-distance telephone service and communications company. Casner developed B & R Equipment, a heavy equipment services. In early 2000, Casner and Troutt bought the 1,450-acre Prestonwood Farm property near Versailles, Kentucky, and renamed it WinStar. The farm is now one of the most state-of-the-art operations, with features such as a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, a newly renovated stallion complex and training barn, and a research lab. It is home to more than 100 broodmares as well as strong stallion roster that includes Tiznow, Distorted Humor and Speightstown. Besides being a successful breeding operation, WinStar is also heavily involved in racing. They had their first Derby starter in 2006, when Bluegrass Cat finished second to Barbaro, and sent out two runners — Colonel John and Court Vision -- in 2008. Elliott Walden serves as the racing manager, and WinStar employs a variety of conditioners across the country.
