The Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association (PCCHA) welcomes cutters back to Paso Robles, CA this October 19-30th for its 32nd Annual Futurity. Second only to the National Cutting Horse Association’s Futurity, the event sports the second largest three-year-old purse in the cutting industry today. Along with more than $1 million in cash and prizes, this year’s PCCHA Futurity will debut some brand new attractions! Both an Intermediate Futurity Open division and a $50K Amateur Cutting Stakes class will round out an already unmatched slate of classes...and payouts to owners of PCCHA Stallion Service Auction sires promises to enhance an already successful program.
Known for their progressive venue, including the longest running Gelding Stakes program in cutting, the PCCHA proudly announces the addition of an Intermediate Open Rider division within the Futurity that will make its debut at this year’s event. Conceptualized by the PCCHA Trainers and largely funded by their Gold Buckle Club, this all-new division was designed to service “crossover” pros from the reined cow horse industry, as well as younger cutting trainers just getting started and others who qualify under the rules. Intermediate Open Riders are defined as professionals who have NCHA lifetime earnings less than $500,000, and earnings during the previous two years totaling no more than $100,000.
“I applaud the trainers for taking the lead and making the effort to grow cutting within the professional ranks,” said PCCHA President Carol Jenkins. “The Intermediate Open division is a much-needed addition to our slate of classes for the Futurity.”
Also, in an effort to acknowledge the fastest growing sector of the cutting industry – the Amateur division – the PCCHA has added a brand new Cutting Stakes $50,000 Amateur class to this year’s Futurity line-up.
“Our Cutting Stakes (4yo) program has long been a star for the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association,” explained Jenkins. “In the last few years we received many requests to add a $50k Am to the Cutting Stakes Program. Since this is a program funded through the Stallion Subscriptions it was not a decision to be made without the input of our stallion owners, who agreed it was time to add a $50 Am.” She added, “The additional added money will be split with the association contributing 50% and the 50% coming from the Cutting Stakes added money. I anticipate this will be a very popular event, as our Amateur entry numbers are very strong.”
Another PCCHA program receiving a facelift this coming futurity season is the Stallion Auction Owners Incentive. Made possible by the many generous breeding donations made by stallion owners across the country, this year $10,000 of the funds generated through donations will be set aside to be split evenly ($5000 each) between owners of sires of the furthest advancing Open and Non-Pro Futurity entries sired by a Stallion Auction Sire.
“For the Board, this was a no-brainer,” commented Jenkins. “Many stallion owners throughout the years have graciously supported PCCHA and our events and this was our opportunity to give something back to them.”
Jenkins also pointed out that with the tough economic times experienced in our country today, the collective effort of all involved in the PCCHA is testament to a commitment to persevere. “I am so proud of our Board, trainers, staff, membership and others that have come to us with ideas to grow and improve cutting on the West Coast. We are not content to just maintain the status quo. The three new additions to our Futurity are proof of those efforts.”
