In his first attempt at the CCI3* level Otis Barbotiere produced a clear round to climb up the leaderboard finishing in 14th place. The gelding owned by the Otis Barbotiere Syndicate made an ascent up the standings throughout the weekend after placing 55th in the dressage and moving up to 23rd following the cross country and finally landing within the top 15.

All involved with the American squad this week were extremely impressed with the nine-year-old’s performance over the weekend.

“It’s very exciting for Boyd and for us as a team.” Said Chairmen of the USEF Eventing Selectors Mike Huber; “It’s great that he has another horse looking towards next year. Otis is a very exciting young horse.”

Germany’s Andreas Dibowski claimed victory in the CCI3* following a faultless jumping round.

The Boekelo CCI3* also hosted a team competition, which Germany won handily.

The U.S. team was out of contention for team honors after the elimination of Tamra Smith (Murrieta, CA) and retirement of Michael Pollard (Dalton, GA) on the cross country Saturday.

All three US riders made the trip Holland to compete at Boekelo as part of a developing rider trip; the purpose of which was to provide developing riders and/or horses the opportunity to compete overseas and gain international experience and exposure. Martin, Smith and Pollard will all return to the US having gained valuable knowledge and being stronger competitors following their Dutch tour.

“It was not as good a result as we had hoped for but it was a very educational and enlightening trip. All these riders will have learned a lot.” Huber said “All the horses came out of this well and everyone will continue working towards next year.”
