About Me
I have been riding my entire life. In fact, the day before I was born my mom rode a horse she was considering buying. She didnt buy the horse, but it meant that I pretty much came out of the womb riding. I showed and rode until I was about 10, and then decided I didnt want to do the horse thing anymore. But, since I lived on a horse farm, it was hard to get away from. By the time I was 12 my best friend told me that she was tired of being the only one her age that rode anymore (adults were no fun) and that I WAS going to ride again, too bad. I've never looked back. When I started up again I went western (my mom was big into western pleasure at the time) and I really love it. I did ride hunt seat as well, but western was always my favorite. I did 4H and was actually on the Maine State Equestrian Team for 3 years, which was one of the highlights of my riding career. 2 years into college my mom got out of the horse training business and got really into mini horses. It coincided with my being too old to do 4-H anymore, so I stopped showing and my riding time went from daily to monthly. Then this summer we BOTH got a job at an amazing stable (she as barn manager and me as instructor) and it is awesome! I have done more hunt seat since coming here and even got more into jumping (something I knew how to do before but wasnt really into). However, western still remains by passion, and when several of the students expressed an interest in trying it, I was pumped. Now we are on our way to making a group of very talented multi-seat riders, and I love it. I hope to get back into showing this summer, but will stick to mostly local stuff since I dont have a horse that can compete at a high level right now.
We have 5 horses of our own and 8 minis.
My horses are:
Fancy- a 16 y.o Appaloosa mare (seen in my profile pic). Registered name: "My Fancy Streaker". Bay with a bald face, one blue eye, one brown eye and 4 white stockings. She looks NOTHING like an Appy, but is AMAZING. People always tell me how "beautiful your paint is!", but I love her anyway. She is a kick-butt western pleasure horse. She was the horse I made the MSE team with. We've had her since she was 3.
Lexi- a 10 y.o QH mare. Registered name is "Skippa Good Lass". Shes a big bay with a star. We call her "handsome" because she doesnt have a very pretty head and is very big and stocky. But she is the sweetest horse and would do anything for her rider. You can put a complete beginner on her and she will be fine, or an advanced student and she will help challenge them. She is actually related to Fancy, which is kind of funny.
Addison- We dont know much about Addy because we got her through an auction. She is around 12 by her teeth, and we are pretty sure she is some sort of App-QH cross. She is very hunter, and is a pretty chestnut. She gets spooked by all sorts of silly things, but is slowly learning to trust us. She looks like a hunter horse, but actually seems to like western better. She has a great jog.
Cinco- Again, we got him through an auction, so his background is unknown. He is about 9 and is DEFINITELY a QH. He is very cutting/reining horse built, and is a very good boy. He didnt have a name when we bought him, just a number (502). So we named him Cinco for 5, and call him "Cinco de Mayo". He is a liver chestnut and has a VERY nice head, almost feminine.
Amber- Amby is a 26 year old morgan-pony cross. She is between 12 and 13 hands and is a wonderful pony. She is very fat and definitely stuck in her ways. We have had her for 8 years and got her as a free lifetime lease from a woman who couldnt keep her due to illness. Amby pretty much just does walk lessons for our beginner kids, but seems perfectly content to stick to that. She is also very fun to bareback around on because she is so incredibly round and comfy, and is short enough to get on from the ground. She is also a liver chestnut, but is much darker than Cinco.
Our minis are: Faythe, Bay Babe, Sing, Brownie, Hooligan, Splash, Brilly and Banjo. We expect 3 babies this spring, all sired by Banjo.
