About Me
Karen (Henrikson) Boysen began her riding career at age 7. Karen, born and raised in Mentor, Ohio, began showing ponies and worked her way through the childrenâs division advancing into the jumper ring.
Karen has trained and studied with a number of instructors, including Elizabeth Porter, Terry Thompson, Beth Nielson, Sue Coen, and Kim McElroy. Karenâs attended Lake Erie College where she competed and excelled in the Equitation Ring. She rode in both the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and the Ohio Professional Horsemanâs Association (OPHA) series, winning numerous championships.
One of her greatest accomplishments was winning the Reserve National IHSA Equitation Champion title in 1994. After this success, Karen spent the following summer both riding and training under the guidance of Constance Kilmartin of Orchard Hill. Farm in Portola Valley CA. Karen and her jumper, The Pineapple, were successful in the children/adult jumper ring.
Karen matriculated with a degree in Education. In 1998, she embarked on her career as a special education teacher. While focusing on her career, Karen took a break from showing herself and rode her horse, Cheeks, for pleasure at a local farm. Meanwhile, Karen kept her foot in the show ring helping others with their horses.
2003 saw the purchase of a hunter, Storm Warning, affectionately known as Warren. Warren was particularly gifted in the hunter ring and achieved numerous year end awards. Karen again excelled in equitation, finishing the year as Reserve Champion OPHA Adult Equitation.
The upcoming birth of Karenâs son, Adam, and her familyâs move to Georgia resulted in a great deal of change in her life. One of the many changes was Warrenâs move to a new family where he currently shows in upstate New York and is much treasured. UPDATE: Warren has returned to Karen !
Karen, her husband Mike, and their son, Adam, live in Woodstock, Georgia. Karen launched her career as a professional trainer and opened BOYSEN LTD in 2007.
