About Me

The minute I learned what a horse was, I wanted one. I bargained for a horse the whole time I was growing up but never got one :( Eventually my parents broke down and got me riding lessons for my 8th birthday thinking I'd quit once I realized all the work and dirt that was involved... Boy were they wrong!!
I've been riding competitively since I was 9 years old. I fell out of the horse world during college due to the fact that I did not own one myself and had no idea where to go around here to ride. Then I took the "Breaking and Training" class the last semester of my Senior year at UGA. I fell in love with the pony I was assigned to, so I bought him. Then I bought his half-sister the next year! They're both pretty fabulous and I consider them to be my kids (they even elbow each other out of the way to see which one can get to the gate first when I go out to get them).
My gelding went to several eventing shows when he was 3 and he is absolutely perfect for that job! Fearless, super smart, sane in all situations, loves to jump, loves to gallop, and cute as all get-out! (The cute thing seems to go over well with Dressage judges at the Amoeba, Tadpole, and Beginner Novice levels so far...) I've been trying to get my mare trained, but an injury has kept my right foot out of the stirrup for a year now (and the doctors say it may never touch a stirrup again...) Either way, I'm riding despite the disability (thanks to LOTS of lessons without stirrups as a kid!), and I'm trying to get them both back in shape and out on the road again. They both LOVE to jump, which is great because they're super easy to train when they like what they're doing!! They're also fearless about things like obstacle and confidence courses and going in water! And if I ever have any problems with Kari, all I have to do is let her watch Lil' Doc do it first. She operates on a strict "Monkey See, Monkey Do" philosophy and will copy ANYTHING she sees him do!
I also break and train other people's horses for eventing, dressage, and hunters and I teach lessons and coach at local shows when I have spare time. I've worked with everything from little, teeny, Section-A Welshes to great big Hanoverians and I really love working with them all.
Growing up, I trained with Tina Thompson-Lawson of Cedar Hill Farm in Douglasville, GA; and around here I've trained mostly with Chris Pritchard of Greenbriar Creek Farm in Watkinsville, GA. I used to compete a lot, but the recent injury has kept me away from the barn more than I would have liked and I just started Law School this past August, so I'll have to postpone that idea for a while... Maybe that foot will be healed by the time I've got time for serious riding again! And hopefully that settlement will come in soon so I can get back to taking lessons! I'm pretty sure I've developed some bad habits in the past year of riding with one leg...
I'll be graduating Law School in 2011 and I'm very interested in practicing equine law, so if anyone out there has any contacts or suggestions, let me know!!
