Has been an Equestrian Life Member since July 06, 2009, lives in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, United States and considers herself a Business Professional (Non-Rider). She is affiliated with Life Enrichment Consulting.
Paula has a BA in Sociology (1987) from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa & M.A. in Gerontology (2010) from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. She has 20 years of experience working as a recreational professional in the Minneapolis area with seniors in a wide variety of residential communities including Nursing Home, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Adult day Care, Independent Living, and Park & Recreation.
Paula was also the Program Coordinator of The Center to Study Human–Animal Relationships & Environments (CENSHARE) at the University of Minnesota from 1998–2001. During her CENSHARE tenure she was asked to be a contributing author for the 2003 Delta Society resource: “Animals in Residential Facilities: Guidelines and Resources for Successâ€. This book is available through the Delta Society Book Store and represents a comprehensive resource on how to properly and humanely incorporate animals into a wide variety of senior or other residential living environments.
I also have a backgound and specialize in the area of Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAI) and Nature-Assisted Activities (NAA) with older adults. This includes Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT),Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA), and how to incorporate companion animals and nature activities with older adults in a variety of senior living environments including: Long Term Care, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Adult Day Care and other related senior living environments.
Paula now serves as a Life Enrichment Consultant seeking to help others understand how to make their journey into their retirement years with purpose and meaning. She also is a consultant for professionals and volunteers interested in learning how to apply Animal–Assisted Interventions and Nature Assisted Activity options with seniors in a wide variety of settings.
