About Me
Hello. My name is Caitlin. I bought my first horse when I was 12 1/2 with my own money. My horse's name was Pebbles since her coat was flee-bitten and the name just stuck. She was a non-registered Arabian and was around 20 years old. When we bought her she was very malnourished and had many tooth problems. I was able to buy her for only $450. For five years I loved that old mare and I treated her back to health. I rode her as much as possible and competed her in barrel racing, which she actually wasn't half bad at. September 15, 2008 Pebbles passed away from old age. She will forever be in my heart.
Over my life me/my family have owned seven horses and one pony. A few of those horses I bought personally and decided to train them better to sell next year for a higher profit. They are now in good homes and I personally inspected the possible owners before I thought that they would be good enough. My main horse right now is Sky, aka Recite A Merry Verse. I bought her to train in barrel racing and hopefully bringing her with me to college of 2010. So far she is doing well but I'm finding it harder and harder for me to squeeze everything in and riding/training my horses so I might have to sell her next summer.
My other main horse is Shieka. She is a registered Arabian although she is unusually tall for a pure Arabian, 15.2, and I believe that she has had a few Thoroughbred bloodlines in her. We bought her as a trail horse for my mom but previous injuries had delayed my mom from riding regularly and I took up the role as Shieka's owner. For a while we worked on endurance riding since she had such great stamina but then I started dipping my interest into the jumping world. Ever since I was little I dreamed of flying over fence in the Olympics and now Sheika was going to be my first jumping horse. Easier said then done. It took a while but now she is much more collected in her gaits and jumping and even now she is more confident going over smaller jumps, solo and with someone on her. We might possibly be selling her too next summer.
Our last horse is named Sparkle, her previous owners daughter named her, although she is a very light grey horse so you can see how she got her name. Sparkle is a rescued Andalusian with a very swayed back, probably trained to hard to early, and one of the kindest horses I have ever met. She is around twenty years old now but we are not 100% sure. My grandfather bought her a year after I bought Pebbles then he gave her to me. She was the first horse who I started riding English on and how to jump properly on. Sparkle is now just a retired backyard horse that loves getting attention and carrots. Hopefully we will never have to sell her.
