Sorry I'm so full of questions today! But here's another one.... I know most western riders don't but I think it would boost my confidence and make me feel safer if I got and wore a riding helmet. Does tractor supply carry a reliable brand? And how much should I be ready to pay?

I live in an area that has a high population of deer ticks. What are your suggestions to help keep my horses tick free.

Eventually I want to ride my horse down our little country road. It's really pretty with green pastures and birds singing and cattle grazing and even the occasional goose on a pond. I am concerned however about several things. First off there is a stallion that lives about two miles down the road. He is in a big pasture but tends to stand in the shade trees near the road. His pen is a barbed wire fence will it hold him if he were to get excited? How should I handle that situation? Also do you think people will be curtious enough to slow down and not honk at us?

How good under saddle does your horse have to be before you ride bare back? Any tips for riding bare back? How might my 3 year old respond to being ridden bare back? ( after I get a little better at riding with a saddle I want to try it on her)

How was everyones weekend? Saturday was great...hubby got the concrete done while us girls were at the gymkhana. My daughter and my mare got 4 firsts, a 2nd and a 5th...and 2 DQ's. Not too shabby and loads of fun. Father's Day Breakfast with hubby, then to visit our oldest son and his family, then hunted down hay, dinner and now relaxing.

Ok me and fouroclock were walking in her pen and she took off running like she was spooked but then she rared up so I let go of the lead rope and she ran off running and bucking. I caught her when she stopped made her do a little ground work then let her go. Jamie, my step mom, told me later in the car that there is a bee nest in the tree we were near. Did I do the right thing?

Okay, so I was in the military for almost ten years and am just starting lessons again. I am intermediate level but i just can't seem to get my canter seat right. I am having trouble relaxing and riding with my core instead of my hands and I can't seem to get the " scoop" rhythm, to match the lope of the horse. I am sure i will get it eventually but its frustrating lol. And I don't have my own horse so I can only ride at the stable once a week. Any tips from you expert riders?
