Equestrian Life is an online community for horse people.
We bring together horse people across all disciplines, breeds and sports.
We invite you to connect with others who love horses as much as you do.
I call Hunter, the dressage of the hunter world. And is much needed for a young rider to be disciplined to be a Jumper. As Jumpers are my fave, I am an adrennaline junky and jumping does it for me.
I think it would depend on your personality.
If you are bolder and like more of a thrill, then you would definitely like jumper classes better.
But if you're more relaxed and timid like me, you'd probably have more fun in a hunter show (because it's slower and the horse is more relaxed).
I prefer both. With my horse since she has a friesian look, she cannot do hunter, so we do jumpers. I have done both. In lower jumpers I feel you can mess up a little more than hunters (if your horse chips or gets a weird spot). In hunters its on perfection and how well the course looks. In jumpers, your only threats are time and faults. I personally find hunters way more stressful. Jumper shows around here are more low key and laid back. Hunter shows are more hectic, I've had to be in two rings at once before. Also in hunter shows if your horse is green and has energy, it's sometimes harder to place. Both are fun to me.
Jumper!!! Way more exciting but I wouldnt throw a new horse or rider into a jumper class, a hunter would be better bc its more calm and the courses arent as complicated. For everyone else, jumper is far more fun.
I think it really depends on the horse. some horses are naturally more hunter-type and others, like mine (an arabian) are more the jumper type. It depends on their personality and build. The horse is what makes it fun or not fun in my opinion
