At what age does a horse stop growing? I hear many opinions on when they stop. Someone told me at 3yrs, than someone else said they mature at 4yrs and finally one said at 6yrs. What age do you think a horse stops growing?

Depends on the breed... but usually horses will still be filling out at 5-6 years old, even if they aren't growing in height.

I think it depends on the breed, but most do the majority of their growing by 3, but they grow slowly until about 6.

my aunts saddlebred is almost 3
the vet told her he won't be done growing, up or out until he's about 6.
The damn thing is probably already 16 hands. how much taller does he need to get!?

At least they don't keep growing all their lives...could you imagine.

I think that a horses height is mature by age 3, the back isn't done developing in length until age 5, and they will change shape form/shape throughout their life span (just like us humans :)

All horses are different - like people - when they are finished growing, that's as big as they are going to get. I think you can still work 'em out and build up endurance, flexibility and strength but when they are as tall as they are going to get, that's it. I have heard that you can do things to enhance grown and stunt it but I am not familiar with such drugs and techniques.

Depends on a lot of different things....some bloodlines in anybreed are slow to mature. Our one mare I was told to sell when she was 3...she was 13 hands and a petite thing....at 6/7 she grew to 15.2 hands and weighed in at 1200 pounds. Our 4 yo filly just grew a few inches and widended by 4 inches....our 5 yo Morgan has shot up this spring.
