My farrier took the 2 outside nails off of my horse's back shoe yesterday and left the 2 inside nails on. He said my horse would be okay until he came back on Friday and put new shoes on my horse, but I feel like my horse's shoe is going to come off before then. He said he couldn't put new outside nails in because my horse's walls were not in very good shape. Do I have reason to be worried? Do you think he will be okay or should I speak to someone about this? Thanks!!
I would trust your farrier. I think that they are one of the most important people to trust in the horse world. If one comes loose, just call him to come earlier if possible.
Depending on how well you know your farrier, i would trust him. If he is new, I usually go by the rule of: Does he use all tools including Gauges, Levels, Eveners, Rulers and Dividers? Some farriers will say they do not need these or that they are too experienced, but the slightest things can really throw off your horse and a good farrier knows this. Hoofs are extremely important, did he give you anything to get them in better shape? Or suggest anything? If the answer to any of these is no, I would get a 2nd opinion.
