it's never to late to start showing, 16 is still very young. you have 3 yrs to practice. I'm 16 and I just learned to "properly" jump this year and show hunt seat, I hope to go to some real english shows in spring. its never to late to learn something new, or start something new. do whatever your heart tells you to do.

It's never too late to start showing. I'm 25 and only just started showing my horse. I've been riding for 4 years and only now I have the confidence to go out into the show ring. There's plenty of younger people in the ring, some are 10 years old and are running circles around me. However, I don't let it get to me as I'm out there to learn and have fun. If you want to start showing in three years, you will have that time to learn things and possibly your first show you will do just as well. Just keep up the practice and have fun!
