I'm pretty sure mine is $15 for just the test, but I usually get it done with all the other shots so that may be slightly discounted...
A Coggins test is basically where a vet pulls your horses blood to see if it has equine infectious anemia (EIA), also known as coggins disease. It is highly contagious and is spread by horseflies, but the virus can only live for 15-30 minutes within the horsefly (so it only affects nearby horses). After that the virus dies and is no longer a threat. But if your horse has had EIA in the past then it never goes away, the virus is always there lying dormant, and it can come back in times of stress. It can also be fatal and kill quickly. Most states if you want to show or travel with your horse, the horse needs to have a negative coggins test to show that it is safe to be around other horses. Here's a link if you want more info. Yea most barns won't let you board without a coggins done. If you are traveling out of state your coggins must be done within 6 months. I think my coggins was aroung 25 last year... But we also do a TON of immunizations so it could be discounted like Jen said hers may be. But besides Coggins for showing I always have my horses done with WNV, EEE, Potomac, etc there's so many haha but our coach requires it for the show horses.
