ok i might start leasing a horse BUT the horses at my barn are all nice, but i don't feel like i have a bond with any of them. they are extermly good in jumping which of course is what im doing. or there is this other horse, roxie, she is at another barn and i love her to death she actually changed my life. i was heart-sick when i left that barn. but that might take extra work. she can only jump cross rails. and i would have to take lessons my barn then go over and do whatever i learned with roxie... so my questions is should i lease a reallllly good jumper, but i have no connection with him whatsoever, or i lease roxie, who is not that great in jumping but she is everything to me?

It really depends on what is more important to you.On one hand you may love Roxie buts he might hold you back but if a strong bond is more important the choose Roxie. On the other hand you can lease another really good jumper and they can help you to learn insted of holding you back but you would have to work to build a bond with a new horse. So if moving forward is more important to you then do that and work on the bond with the new horse.Or another option with roxie is can she only jump cross rails because thats all she is trained to do?Or is it a health thing? If its training thats better because then you can work with her.Its a really hard choice but if roxie just does not have the training then I would go with her and work with her.If it's a health thing.....well doing the same thing everytime you ride and knowing you can't achive more can really be boring after awhile.Hope I helped let us know what you choose to do.

i think it depends on what you ant to do with your training and what you would benefit more from. I had this same issue. I leased like and amazing horse that could do it all, but i didnt bond at all with him. I was still able to ride my baby for free tho, and then 3 years later i ended up buying him for an awesome deal because he was my baby. Because i had learned so much from this other horse and 3 years of really hard core training i was able to teach my horse so mech, and fix what people had screwed up about him. hope this helps!

If you're really serious about getting better at jumping, and you feel that Roxie won't take you to that desired level, you should lease the other available horse who is good. You may not have a bond with him, but that bond will develop as you keep riding together. When I leased Jumanah in order to learn English riding, it took me almost half a year before we finally bonded. When we did, we started doing really well in competition; I'd say it's worth the wait. And my horse that I've had for ten years didn't click with me at all. But I worked with her for a while until we found balance with each other. Trust me, the bond will come with time and will definately be worth it.

try to cultivate some bonds with some other horses. focus on something you really like about a well trained but different horse.

I think you should stick with Roxie, i mean if you ever want to start competing on the circut you can always lease a good jumper for what 1 month, create a bond then jump in shows but i think if your going to keep her, choose Roxie, i had the same problem, only i had to buy the horse, so if you really love her, lease her, you can always train her to what you want her to do in the circut.

i think you should go with a horse that jumps well. yes, you may love roxie but you shouldnt let your emotions mix in with your long term goals. if you want to become a better rider, you need a horse to help take you there and you will get much more out of riding a horse that jumps well than roxie. ive let my emotions mix in with my riding before and now i am much farther behind than where i should be.. i regret it so much. : /

I think that you should stick with Roxie. Wouldn't you rather have a horse that you now loves you, and would do just about anything for you? I think a bond with a horse is more importent then how well they can do things. And you can lease a good jumper when you need to. I think you should stick with Roxie.
