Ok, so the horse I ride is a TBX with 3 very nice, easy to ride/sit gaits. After he is warmed up, he goes nicely into a frame at the trot, and sometimes the walk. But how can I get him like this at the canter? How can I get him more collected and rounded? He is soft in the mouth, and loves to work.
Any tips would be nice. :)
Can you do a stretchy circle at the trot? Try cantering a stretchy circle and here you need to put a lot of leg on, sit way back, and give out the reins gradually. It's not easy to make the horse self carry with you out of the way. But that's how you get the connection and feel with your body. Try taking it from the long and low trot and just ask the horse to half halt and step up into the transition to canter while keeping everything long and low. Remember that long and low doesn't mean throwing your reins away : )
