I don't exactly know how to explain this, but I ride a speedy horse whom I am having trouble slowing up while cantering. I try squeezing and then releasing on the reins, but its not doing me any good. I try to keep my heels off of her as much as possible, but she still speeds up. Help?

I've just started riding again at the age of 36 and find that my legs are incredibly weak (I'm scrawny). Are there any great exercises for building leg strength, both in and out of the saddle?

I am having trouble finding a bit for my horse. I just bought a 5 year old Thoroughbreed Mare. At the canter she does this weird thing with her head, where she lifts it and turns it in. I had this very good trainer watch me and she said it was nothing with my seat, balance, or inter-ference. I know I have soft hands so I know i'm not hanging on her. Her teeth have been done recently and I've been working on leg yeilds with her for bending and balance. I just can't seem to find a bit. I've been riding her in a snaffle, I've tried some others but can't fine the one thats for her... I used to use a rubber bit on my first horse, also a mare who needed soft hands.. But before I went out and bought one I wanted to know if there was any others I should concider.

I'm teaching myself how to ride English. It's been an ongoing project for about 2 years. I'm wondering how to fix stirrup length. I recently went to the doctor and found out that my right leg is 1/2 inch shorter than my left leg. No wonder I felt off center in the saddle. How do you guys suggest i fix the off centeredness?

Two questions: (1) Does anyone have a good guide to properly wrapping polo or other leg wraps? I need something to refer to while practicing. (2) Can someone explain to me the difference between a standing martingale and a running martingale? Thanks!

Which would you use for jumping? I've had bell boots on my horse while show jumping, but will polo wraps help more? Or should I be looking for splint boots?

How do you get yourself prepared for a show? I have a show that I'm competing this Saturday, and I was wondering what advice you guys may have had in means of getting prepped/ready for the show. I mean in the way of riding or lessons before the show. I am riding in Maiden Equtation, which is a walk trot, walk trot canter classes, as well as two low x fences. One more thing. I get really nervous before I get into the ring, and I wanted to know what I could do so I were less nervous.

My horse doesn't like to stand still at the gait when we are about to go into the ring or when my trainer is telling me the coarse. DO you have any tips on how to make him stand better. Because if i make him stand for to long then he tries to rear sometimes and that is not good!
