What is your preferred liniment for your horse's legs? My last lease horse's owner like to use a mix of Bigeloil and Alcohol, but I developed an allergy to the Bigeloil. :( My throat would get very itchy and my tongue would go tingly and numb when I sprayed it. I've used Sore No More and Greencool before, just wondering what everyone else likes!

Ok my mare has lots of medium sized bumps mainly on her right side. They are covered in hair and don't seem to hurt at all. My dad says they are horse fly bites. What do y'all think? How can I get them to go away?

I am getting ready to move my mare from a dry lot where she got sweet feed and alfalfa cubes (for roughage) to an 7 acre pasture with plenty of green grass. How do I keep her from foundering. Also, they mowed the pasture about a week ago, is that dangerous to her? Thanks!

Need help ASAP!! Our weather went from 70+ degrees and sunny to 35 degrees and pouring rain. When I went out to feed my mare (who doesn't have much of a coat) she was soaked to the bone and shivering. I promptly put a waterproof blanket on her with a cooler underneath it. Was this the right way to go about the situation or should I go do something differently? Please help ASAP! Don't want her to get sick! P.S. She is in a pasture with just trees for cover, and there is no indoor place where I can put her until she is dry. Thanks!

Now that summer is approaching, what does everyone do to control fly's and biting insects? Do you use fly masks, sheets, sprays, fly predators, a combo of all? Any natural spray recipes that work?

I have a 13 year old Thoroughbred mare and when I take her to shows she tends to get very nervous especially in slant load trailers. I'm considering putting her on a claming supplement this summer but I want to know what works that isn't extremely expensive. Any suggestions? Thank you!

My horse had to be put down a few days ago as he contracted Leptospirosis in February and later went blind which he did fine with for about 2 weeks but then gave up so he was put down in his best interest. I know that Lepto can be contracted from deer and I believe urine as well, but what else are causes of this bacteria and what are early on symptoms. I also know that a blood test for raised antibodies is how you find out if a horse is infected with leptospirosis. I just want to know if infected what symptoms are early on shown or how can you minimize the bacteria in your horse's environment..

Over the winter I got a new pair of tall riding boots. I've been riding in them and they have seemed to rub about a baseball (more like a softball size now) patch of hair off on just one side. I've been working with my trainer to quiet my leg and have decided now to only ride when i HAVE to (one lesson a week and half an hour of jumping once a week). I've tried just about everything (including MTG which didn't work at all for my guy) and his hair just isn't growing back. I have a show at the end of April and I'm starting to worry we're going to have a big bald spot in the arena. Is there anything you've found that works to get hair to grow back? Hopefully the blankets can come off soon and air can get to it so it will heal faster, but as of right now, that's not an option. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Update on my feed situation: The ranch I work at is a private ranch, so I am the barn manager so to speak and I have one girl under me and we are the only two working there, so no danger of boarder's horses getting sick. I actually work at the Orscheln's where we got the feed, so I took a bag back in to show them. We checked bags that were literally delivered straight from the manufacturer that day and they were the same way. We talked to our rep and she said that they might have just changed the formula and started adding a little more molasses. We fed it to the horses in a smaller amount than normal last night. They all seemed to be there normal selves this morning, so we think the formula was just changed. We will keep a close eye on them and make sure they are doing alright.

I work at a ranch, and while filling up our feed bin I ran into a bunch of bags where the feed looks darker than normal and smells almost a little sour. It is 11% sweet feed. It is not moldy at all, but its not right. I have not been feeding it, but if there is nothing wrong I don't want to return it. What do you guys think?

I have a seven year old Tennessee Walking Horse mare, she's naturally high energy but she's just gotten out of hand on energy level. She might as well be an endurance horse right now. I can pace her all the way to my farm and back which is roughly six miles and she's sweating but very lightly as if I've only barely ridden her at all. She still has energy to spare. She gets ridden three times a week sometimes more for at least two hours if not longer. She's getting half a scoop of 12% all stock twice a day right now and that's simply too much for her. I feed that for my older mare who shares the same field. They, of course, get hay as well. We keep a round bale in their field at all times except during the height of summer when there's a bunch of grass. I need to be able to get it from like Tractor Supply. My parents won't let me order anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions on avoiding proud flesh in a healing wound, or how to deal with it? Of all the times my horses have cut themselves, I have never had any issues with proud flesh, but my colt's cut that he got a week ago looks like it might end up like that.

I've noticed my 3 year old filly is getting some spots/bumps on her nose over the last 2 weeks. Now there is some above her eye, also. (you can see pictures in my corral uploads) Does anybody have any idea what this could be? A month ago we had a bout of girth itch, but we bleached EVERYTHING very well, twice and the girth itch is no more. But could it have shown up again? Tally is a very nosy horse poking her nose into everything. ;-P Thank you in advance!

Signs of stomach ulcers in horses? My 15 y/o mare is totally not herself. She's not eating very much, her tummy is always making funny sounds, she's coughing a lot, and she's very sulky. At first I was super worried it might be collic, but she's showed no signs of anything progressing, and she's not laying down or trying to roll. We're trying to get her in to see a vet, but we have no way to get her there because my uncle's out of town (can't pull the trailer). Should I try giving her a few tums and see if it helps?
