Hello, my name is Chelsey Sawtell, primary riding instructor at BlackFriar Farm in Kingston Springs, Tennessee. And today, we'll be discussing dressage attire. Traditional lower level dressage attire consists of field or dress boots. In this instance, we display dress boots. The lack of laces and Spanish top line distinguish them from field boots. Light or white breeches are worn. The breeches shown here have a full seat, which are often popular with those sitting trot. A black wool coat and stock tie are worn. Traditionally, most dressage coats are wool. New fabrics for the shirts underneath can make the ride much cooler in inclement weather. Though an approved helmet with harness is often worn, ascots in some instances, are approved. The rider uses a dressage saddle. The long straight flaps make it easy for the rider to have adequate contact between length of leg and horse. A black dressage bridle, most often with flash, helps to aid in rider and horse communication. Dressage is about dancing with your partner. It is fine movements within every gate that make one beautiful dance when it's all completed. In conclusion, this is generally what you would wear in lower level dressage riding.
