The best way to improve horse riding position is by living in the two-point position. Become a balance rider with a nice, deep heel with help from a riding instructor in this video on improving a position in horse riding.
Hello, my name is Chelsey Sawtell, Primary Riding Instructor at Black Friar Farm in Kingston Springs, Tennessee. And today, we will be discussing ways to improve your position. Living in the two point position is the best way to improve your form. Properly standing in two point with a deep heel, weight balanced, arched back, shoulders raised off the horse and hands up, the most effective way to strengthen your leg and lower back. Begin in the two point position. Hands up the crest of the neck, heels deep. There should be a line between your hip and your heel, your shoulder and the front of your knee. Move your hands up of the horse's neck. Do you fall forward? Do you feel as though you're falling backwards? If you fall backwards, it means that your heel is too far forward, sending you back onto your seat. If you have a tendency to want to pinch with your knee or fall forward onto your hands, it means that your leg is too far back and there is not enough weight in your heel. The end result should be a balanced rider with a nice deep heel, not having to pinch or grip to maintain the balance. You should be able to move your hands from chest, straight out into the side without losing your balance. Riding in two point over varied terrain is a wonderful way to improve your balance and increase your communication with your horse. Transitions, not only within the gate, but also from walk to trot, trot to the canter and back again, with the rider properly balanced in their heel in two point is a wonderful way to improve balance. Do not expect to get these techniques all at once. It takes time and balance to do one properly.
