The frequency of massage treatments a horse may require depends on its daily routine, its age and whether it participates in competitions. Learn what massage schedules suit different types of animals in this video on equine kinesiology.
Hello, my name is Jennifer Oliver, and I'm an equine massage therapist, and the question is, how often do I recommend equine massage? That really varies depending on your horse. You know, whether they're a high level eventer, or your everyday riding horse, it also depends on the age of the horse. So, that's really kind of a hard thing to narrow down. Horses that compete, I like to see every other week, horses that are just kind of for pleasure horses, you know, maybe once a month, and then horses that compete at very high levels, you know, even once a week. Especially before and after their shows. But, so it really varies. It really just depends on your horse. And some people just still use me whenever they notice their horse is feeling a little off. In a typical week, I can massage anywhere from five to 20 horses. It really depends on if there are any big shows going on, what time of year it is, you know I have a tendency to have less work in the winter because all the shows go down to Florida. People just kind of slow down on their training to give their horses a break. So, that really varies. I would say you know, on average, I do about 50 horses a month and you know then that also still depends on time of the year.
