Stranger Danger While Trail Riding
Hi, I'm Patty Fiedler, mounted patrol instructor and trainer. Today, I'm going to give you some tips on strangers in the trail. You want to remember that strangers can come to you in any form. They can be in a car. They can be on a horse. They can also be on the ground. They can tell you that they live in the area and need some help, and lure you into the trail where you will be away from your friends. They will also ask you for cell phones. They'll ask you and get closer to you so that they can grab you. You want to remember to keep at least 21 feet from somebody you don't know. Also remember, don't let them if they are on horseback ride up to you. That is a way that if they are secure with the area that they can grab hold of you or your reigns. Your horse will run at the time if you come off and that enables them to have more power over you. You can always help somebody by keeping distance, dial the phone number for them, stay with a group. If they tell you somebody has come off their horse, the entire group must go with you. Never accompany them to their home. Never accompany them to their barn. Always sit there and say to them, I will call for help, I will arrange for help to let them come with you to a safe area. You want to remember people because they are on a horse, is not always friendly. They are there to do harm. If you can, always ride in pairs. Never allow a child to ride by themselves and always try to have a cell phone with you. If you are in an area where your cell phone does not work, you want to get out of that area as soon as possible. Always remember to tell people where you are, who you're with and the direction of travel that you will be going. Know your area very well. Know where your barns are and the people that live in that area. This will keep you from getting into danger and allow you to have a nice safe trail ride. And that is some tips on strangers on the trail from Patty Fiedler.
