In making that decision to house your horses in your own backyard you're going to have a whole lot of choices in what kind of a horse barn you might plan. There are a lot of barn manufacturers that you can go to online by looking up, googling what kind of people are out there in the barn construction business. Many of them come what we would call prefabbed. They come with a certain size of a shell; typically they're metal buildings with maybe some custom features available, some wood or some stone accents. Then when you get to the interior of the barn you'll have a lot of choices in the materials that they make the stalls out of. Most common is a tongue and groove combined with what we call grills or metal pipes that go vertically to contain the horses, but still let them see through. There are a lot of barn building books out there that will help you in making those choices. You can also go to an architect and they will draw you up a custom made barn and hen help you to find some of the features that go best with their style and design. Keeping it simple and in budget may also be a concern, and you can look locally for people who specialize in your neighborhood and building outbuildings that work for agricultural use. The biggest thing is take some time in designing your barn to meet all of the needs that you have. You want to ensure adequate tack room space, a wash rack for house, plenty of electricity, ventilation, lots of water source, all of the things that are going to be important. So do check around and make sure that you've looked at a lot of barns to make the choices that are going to work for you for a long time.
