A bitless horse bridle is a great tool for new riders to learn proper horsemanship, as it applies a small amount of pressure on the horse's nose to direct it. Learn about bitless bridles with advice from a riding instructor in this video on equestrian living.
It's very popular, and I certainly enjoy incorporating, what we would call, a bitless bridle, into my training program, for both the use to the horse, and to alleviate sometimes, the problems of new riders, trying to keep their hands quiet, as they learn that process of horsemanship, so a bitless bridle, is one that has some design feature, that creates pressure to the nose, and a little bit to the side of the horse's mouth, to help direct them, without actually influencing those sensitive areas, within their mouth. I like to use this one. It's an S shaped curve, with the rawhide nose band. It seems to be a gentle, but yet effective way to help my horses, when the need arises. We go ahead and we put it on, just like we would another kind of bridle, placing the horse's nose up and through all devices, that are part of the bridle, but the curved chain, sometimes they have a little wire, things to hold that piece together, as it does have a bit of a loose nature. With this bridle, I have a throat latch strap, so I'm going to make sure it's fitting correctly, which of course is, to have some loose area, so that when he bends his neck, it's not going to be too tight, so now we're in essence, putting that pressure to his nose, that he's going to want to move away from, so if I put pressure to his nose, he's going to back off of it, and you can imagine that if I were on the horse, that would be a very effective way to do some training, without influencing as I said, that sensitive area within their mouth. There are a number of types that you can find. There are some that have cable, or cable covered chain, different kinds of things, but for the most part, we're looking at how it influences the sides of their face, here on either side, as well as most importantly, that bridge over their nose.
