The Equicizer is a machine used for alternative jockey training in order to teach jockeys balance, rhythm, motion and reigning skills. Practice in between horse races or recover from an injury using the Equicizer with information from a former professional jockey in this free video on the Equicizer.
So often people will wonder, well how do jockeys train. Well, until the Equicizer, there really wasn't a means for jockeys to train other than riding real horses. If you think about any other athlete, you think about a basketball player can practice shooting hoops, or a golfer can go to the driving range, if you're a baseball player you can go to the batting range, now there's all these options for all other athletes, but for horse riders, there wasn't. So, I created something called the Equicizer, and, with the Equicizer, in horse racing, it'll give me an opportunity to show you how jockeys can now exercise, how they can now train, and how they can rehabilitate if they're coming off an accident. Now, the Equicizer, it's not motorized, it's a spring balanced mechanism that allows me to simulate jockeys in all riding positions. The balancing in the stirrups, and create rhythm and motion. And also practicing my reigning skills. Now, I can ride this thing up and I can simulate riding races on it. This is has been used by some of the world's top jockeys over the past twenty years. It was also used in the movie Seabiscuit. If you've ever watched the movie, the closeup scenes with Toby McGuire, also trained Toby McGuire how to ride like a jockey. Now if you're looking for fitness this is a great way for you to be able to work out, simulate a couple of races, I can give you a couple of examples here. Being in the jockey position. Practicing reigning. Practicing my reigning skills and holding my whip. And also using my whip. Whatever I need to rehearse and practice on my reigning skills. If I was trying to develop skills, this would be a great opportunity for me to practice those sort of things off the race track where there's not all the danger, and then the chances of someone getting hurt. When I initially developed the equicizer, it was because I was recovering from a racing accident where I had a broken leg and I was not able to, obviously I wasn't to ride a horse to get back in shape until I was completely healed. but I also found that other standard exercise equipment was not working the areas that I needed to strengthen, to regain my flexibility and fitness back, so that was another reason why I created the equicizer. So if anybody ever asks you or you wonder how jockeys train, you're getting to see the apparatus right here. This is the Equicizer, and this is now a staple in racing for the past twenty years on how jockeys will exercise and train and rehabilitate.
